She described him as one of the loveliest people she’s ever met, explaining that as the franchise’s original leading man, he’s been leading a large group of newcomers making their way into the Marvel world for the first time, according to The View.

According to Kirby, that leadership takes a surprisingly simple, hospitable form. She revealed that Downey puts on elaborate lunches for the cast every single day, a gesture she credited with genuinely bringing everyone together during filming. Rather than actors isolating themselves nervously in their trailers trying to memorize lines alone, Kirby said the daily lunches keep the sprawling ensemble connected throughout the shoot.

That description lines up with comments Kirby has made in earlier interviews about Downey’s presence on set. Speaking previously with Variety, she noted that Downey is essentially always there, calling him the cast’s leader and describing the group’s shared nickname for him as their “Godfather,” someone who’s consistently looked after the newer actors throughout production.

Given the sheer scale of ‘Doomsday’s‘ ensemble, which brings together actors from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Thunderbolts corners of the franchise, that kind of daily ritual appears to be serving a genuinely practical purpose beyond simple hospitality.
