Disney is getting a very early start on the Avengers: Doomsday release, and fans will soon have the chance to secure their seats months before the movie arrives in theaters. The studio is preparing to open ticket sales much earlier than expected, giving Marvel fans a chance to plan ahead for one of the biggest MCU releases yet.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney will begin selling domestic tickets for Avengers: Doomsday on July 20. The early ticket launch will focus on select premium-format theaters, specifically Infinity Vision screens, which Disney has introduced for major releases.

Opening ticket sales nearly five months before the film’s December 18 release is an unusual move for Marvel. Most movies typically begin selling tickets much closer to their theatrical debut, but Disney appears confident that the next Avengers film will generate huge interest from fans.

The Hollywood Reporter explained that the early ticket sales are connected to theater planning. Since cinemas need to organize showtimes and schedules well in advance, Disney had to provide important details about the film, including its expected runtime.

The reported runtime for Avengers: Doomsday is 165 minutes, or two hours and 45 minutes. While Marvel has not officially confirmed the length, The Hollywood Reporter said it learned the information from sources. If the runtime remains the same, the movie will become one of the longest MCU films ever made.

The film would be longer than Avengers: Infinity War, which ran for 149 minutes, but shorter than Avengers: Endgame, which remains the longest Marvel Studios movie at 181 minutes.

The early ticket strategy also comes as Disney prepares for the return of the Avengers franchise in a major way. The studio will also offer Infinity Vision screenings for a special re-release of Avengers: Endgame, titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, which arrives on September 25.

Marvel has not commented on the ticket plans, but the move suggests the studio is already building excitement around the upcoming crossover event. The early sales will also arrive just days before Marvel’s planned appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, where the studio is expected to showcase the first full trailer for the movie.

Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the biggest MCU projects ever, bringing together heroes from different corners of the Marvel universe. The story will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes facing a new threat in Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

The cast includes major Marvel stars such as Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and many more. The film will also include characters connected to the Fantastic Four and X-Men worlds.

Will you buy your tickets early for Avengers: Doomsday?

With ticket sales starting so early, Marvel is clearly preparing for a massive theatrical event. Fans who want to experience Avengers: Doomsday in premium formats will have the opportunity to reserve their seats long before the movie officially arrives.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18.
