‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Is Returning to Theaters With New Artwork That Reunites the Entire Original Roster
Marvel Studios has always understood the power of spectacle, and nothing captures that better than watching Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assemble one final time. As anticipation builds toward the studio’s next major crossover event, the marketing machine has taken an unexpected turn by looking backward rather than forward.
That backward glance centers on ‘Avengers: Endgame‘, the franchise’s record-shattering 2019 conclusion to the Infinity Saga, which is heading back to theaters under a new banner. Ahead of its theatrical return, Marvel has released striking new artwork depicting the film’s massive ensemble cast reunited in a single sweeping composition, giving fans a fresh visual reminder of just how many characters that final battle brought together.
The re-release, officially titled ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’, begins September 25 and arrives as both a nostalgic victory lap and a strategic setup for December’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. According to Marvel, the presentation includes an exclusive first look at ‘Doomsday’ that will only be shown alongside the Encore screenings, giving fans a tangible incentive to revisit the theater beyond pure nostalgia.
That exclusive footage will be available across standard theaters as well as IMAX and a brand-new premium format called Infinity Vision, Disney’s latest certification for premium large-format screens designed to guarantee bigger images, brighter presentation, and enhanced sound quality. Audiences catching the Encore presentation on either IMAX or Infinity Vision-certified screens will get access to the additional Doomsday sneak peek not available in standard theatrical showings.
Beyond the promotional tie-in, the re-release itself comes with genuine new content baked into the film. Listings have put the Encore runtime at roughly 185 minutes, about four minutes longer than the original 2019 theatrical cut, making it reportedly the longest Marvel Studios theatrical release to date. That extra runtime reportedly includes a new custom introduction, additional footage, and a special end tag exclusive to the Encore presentation.
The scale of anticipation surrounding the re-release has already proven unusually strong. According to reporting, the Encore trailer amassed over 77 million collective views within its first 24 hours, more than four times the opening reception of any previous theatrical re-release trailer, surpassing similar comeback campaigns for films like ‘Top Gun’, the original ‘Avatar’, and ‘Titanic’.
Much of that enthusiasm likely traces back to ‘Endgame’s own extraordinary legacy. The film originally shattered box office records upon release, earning the biggest opening weekend of all time and eventually grossing nearly $2.8 billion worldwide, a run that made it not just the culmination of the Infinity Saga but also one of the last major pre-pandemic theatrical blockbusters.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who also return to helm both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and its follow-up ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, ‘Endgame’ has remained a touchstone moment for the franchise, particularly beloved for communal theatrical experiences like the film’s famous portal sequence that became a viral phenomenon in its own right. Bringing that same collective excitement back into theaters appears to be exactly the goal behind this Encore campaign.
With Infinity Vision now expanding to roughly 75 certified theaters domestically and 300 internationally as of earlier this year, Disney is clearly treating this re-release as more than simple nostalgia bait, positioning it as a proof of concept for its broader premium theatrical ambitions heading into the fall movie season.
