That’s exactly the strategy behind Marvel’s latest re-release, which returns one of its most beloved blockbusters to the big screen just months before the studio’s next major crossover event. With the film hitting theaters on September 25, fans have spent weeks speculating about exactly how much new material they’d actually be getting for their ticket price.
Those questions now have concrete answers. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Encore will include one minute and fifty-eight seconds of bonus scenes in its standard theatrical version, expanding the film’s original three-hour, one-minute, eleven-second runtime. For audiences watching in IMAX or Disney’s Infinity Vision-certified theaters, that number grows further, with an additional three minutes of exclusive ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ footage tacked on, bringing the total new content in those premium formats to nearly five minutes.

Marvel is releasing ‘Endgame’ Encore across five separate theatrical presentations, including Standard, Infinity Vision, IMAX, ScreenX, and 4DX. Infinity Vision itself isn’t a distinct format so much as a certification for premium large-format theaters meeting specific technical requirements for large screens, high-contrast laser projection, and immersive sound.
The standard version includes the same new opening sequence and additional scenes found across every presentation, along with updated color grading on some existing sequences, but it stops short of including the new Doomsday-connected post-credits scene. That footage remains reserved specifically for the IMAX and Infinity Vision showings, meaning fans hoping to see everything new attached to the re-release will need to choose one of those two premium formats.
Co-director Joe Russo has been notably direct about the purpose behind bringing ‘Endgame’ back to theaters. Speaking at the Sands Film Festival in Scotland, Russo described the re-release as a “critical companion story” that functions as setup for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ according to Deadline’s coverage of his comments, directly tying the new footage to the events of the upcoming film.
That connection makes sense given the timing. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to arrive in theaters on December 18, and Marvel appears intent on using ‘Endgame’s’ emotional highs, including the portal battle, Steve Rogers finally lifting Mjolnir, and Tony Stark’s final sacrifice, to pull audiences back into the Avengers mindset ahead of the next major chapter.
