‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1’ Gives Fans Their First Look at Batman’s Brutal Clash With Bane

Animated adaptations of iconic comic book storylines have become a reliable staple for DC fans, offering a chance to see beloved arcs brought to life without the constraints of live-action budgets or continuity. Few stories in Batman’s history carry as much weight as the one finally getting that treatment this summer.

For decades, fans have watched pieces of one particular Dark Knight saga show up in adjacent media, from Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy to various Arkham video games, without ever getting a full, faithful adaptation of the source material itself. That wait is officially coming to an end.

Warner Bros. Animation has released a new exclusive clip from ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1,’ giving fans their first extended look at Batman’s brutal first encounter with Bane ahead of the film’s digital release on August 25. The clip offers an early taste of the physical toll Bane is about to inflict on Bruce Wayne throughout the story.

The film adapts the legendary early 1990s comic arc in which Bane frees every inmate from Arkham Asylum’s Rogues Gallery, systematically wearing Batman down before delivering the story’s most iconic moment. According to the film’s official synopsis, Bane’s release of Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery pushes the Caped Crusader to his mental and physical breaking point.

Anson Mount leads the voice cast as Bruce Wayne and Batman, joined by Michael Mando as Bane and Pablo Schreiber as Jean-Paul Valley, the character who eventually becomes Azrael. Jeff Wamester directs the film from a screenplay written by Jeremy Adams, with Rick Morales serving as supervising producer alongside producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly Moreau.

This marks the first time the complete Knightfall storyline has received a proper feature adaptation, despite elements of it appearing in other forms over the years. The story previously influenced ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ where Tom Hardy’s version of Bane famously broke Bruce Wayne’s back, and has also inspired moments across various Batman video games.

‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1’ will be available digitally starting August 25 through platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango, with a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release following on September 8. Warner Bros. previously confirmed the project as a three-film adaptation, with Part 2 expected later this year and Part 3 arriving sometime in early 2027.

Beyond Bane, the film’s trailer has already teased appearances from several other classic Gotham villains, including the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, the Ventriloquist, and Firefly. Robin also factors into the story, reportedly encouraging Batman to seek help from Azrael, an ally Bruce Wayne is shown to have serious reservations about trusting.

The physical special features accompanying the digital and disc releases will dig deeper into the making of the adaptation, including behind-the-scenes looks at how the filmmakers approached breaking down such a dense, iconic storyline for animation. Additional bonus content will explore Robin’s broader role within the Knightfall saga and the Batman mythology as a whole.

With the full trilogy now mapped out and the first entry just weeks away from release, this exclusive clip offers longtime fans their clearest indication yet of how faithfully the adaptation plans to honor one of Batman’s most physically and emotionally punishing storylines. Given how long fans have waited for a true screen version of Knightfall, expectations heading into the August release are understandably high.
