Beau DeMayo, Creator of ‘X-Men ’97’ Reveals Why Deadpool is Not In the Show

‘X-Men ’97’ was an unexpected hit for Marvel Studios. Following a series of flops in 2023 the studio really needed something to restore at least some of the faith that the franchise could be salvaged from a series of bad stories.

In comes ‘X-Men ’97’ a revival of the old ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’ Fans were wonderfully surprised when the showrunners managed to keep faithful to the old show with new and modern twists.

We know that the show features some of the most notable mutants in the X-Men canon, references to older animated series, and even some Avengers. Fans were wondering why Deadpool, one of the most popular mutants in recent years never made it to the show, especially now that he has a movie coming out in a few months.

Beau DeMayo writer of ‘X-Men ’97’ revealed that Deadpool was off-limits. This is most likely due to the movie coming out, as the studio doesn’t want competing products with the cinematic releases, especially one as popular and highly rated as ‘X-Men ’97.’

There’s also the issue of Deadpool naturally ruining the seriousness of all projects that he appears in, which creates quite an issue if you plan on including him in serious storylines as part of the core group of characters.

I’m certain that Deadpool would work as a quick cameo, but I’m really struggling to see him in a serious story. It’s not that it’s impossible, it’s only extremely difficult to do.

What do you think? Would Deadpool be a good fit for ‘X-Men ’97’? Let us know in the comments below!
