‘Black Clover’ Returns After Four Years With New Anime Series, Teaser Trailer & New Visual

Asta is coming back. After four years of waiting, Black Clover is getting a brand-new anime series. The news came during Crunchyroll’s panel at Anime Expo 2025, where the new project was officially announced.

Along with the announcement, a trailer and a teaser visual were shown to the crowd. Crunchyroll also confirmed that they’ll be streaming the series once it’s released, though there’s no release date yet.

The last time we saw Black Clover in anime form was in 2021. The original series ran from 2017 to 2021 and had 170 episodes. It was produced by Studio Pierrot and followed Asta and Yuno, two orphans who grew up dreaming of becoming the Wizard King.

In a world where everyone uses magic, Yuno was gifted from birth, while Asta had none at all. Instead, Asta received a rare anti-magic grimoire that let him fight in his own way.

After the series ended, fans kept hoping for more. In 2023, the movie Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King hit theaters in Japan and also came out on Netflix. That film helped bring the series back into the spotlight. Around the same time, the manga moved from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump Giga in December 2023, which kept the story going strong.

At the Anime Expo panel, Crunchyroll shared a message from Black Clover creator Yuki Tabata. He thanked fans and talked about his excitement for the anime’s return.

“The production of the long-awaited new anime season of Black Clover has been confirmed! I’m beyond ecstatic going into the new anime season after the super-passionate movie that came out! Thanks to all of you, Black Clover is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! I definitely plan to keep this hype going!”

He also added: “I want fans from Japan and all around the world to enjoy the powered-up anime that’s going to be brought to you by the most awesome anime production staff! Thank you so much for supporting Black Clover!”

The original series got mixed reactions at first, with some saying it felt like a typical shounen anime. But as the story moved forward, it won over more viewers. Many fans liked the fight scenes, character development, and especially how the show handled its female characters. The animation also improved over time, and by the end, it had built a loyal fanbase.

In 2020, Black Clover became the most-watched anime on Crunchyroll, with people in 87 countries tuning in. It was even listed among the best anime of the decade by fans and outlets alike.

So far, no details have been shared about who’s working on the new anime or who’s returning to the cast. But even without all the info, fans are already excited. With the series turning 10 this year, the return couldn’t have come at a better time.
