The newest DC movie and the 14th installment of DC Extended Universe ‘Blue Beetle’ recently premiered in theaters. However, the movie didn’t really premiere with a bang, at least not in a commercial sense. The movie grossed merely $41.4 million worldwide during the opening weekend, which is shameful even when it’s compared to ‘The Flash,’ DC’s most recent box-office bomb, which grossed $139 million worldwide on the opening weekend.

We don’t want to play a general after a battle, but it was suspected that ‘Blue Beetle’ wouldn’t do well commercially, despite the fact that it’s undoubtedly the best-reviewed DC movie since last year’s ‘The Batman’ or, if we stick only to DCEU, since 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ which was also commercially unsuccessful, although that movie was released in theaters and on the HBOMax streaming service simultaneously. This certainly puts a big question on the future of Blue Beetle in DCU, although James Gunn swears that the character will return in his soft-reboot universe, and the director Ángel Manuel Soto also hopes that the sequel could happen.

The ‘Blue Beetle’ director talks about the movie’s mid-credits scene and teases a surprising crossover in a potential sequel!

Ángel Manuel Soto recently shared his hopes for a sequel, but of course, he’s aware that the movie needs to become profitable for a studio to greenlight a sequel. And while the first numbers are, without overreacting, killing that small amount of hope for the potential ‘Blue Beetle 2,’ Soto recently opened up about the movie’s post-credit scene and teased how we might see a Blue Beetle/Booster Gold crossover if a sequel happens.

“We had it [the mid-credits scene] written down. We knew that was what we wanted our story to have. We all love Ted Kord and Booster Gold, and knowing that James Gunn also has plans for Booster Gold, it felt like the right thing for us to continue with. Ted Kord is still alive. He’s somewhere out there in the universe, and whatever the future holds for our hero is open to interpretation. So, whether that is Booster Gold or Ted Kord or if it is both of them [together], the possibility exists, and it is something that we want to entertain.”

‘Blue Beetle’ Director Talks About Chances for a Sequel

Booster Gold is a DC superhero who first appeared in 1986, created by Dan Jurgens. The ‘Booster Gold’ series is currently in development as one of the first five television series set in DCU. The series is in early development, and it’s unknown who will portray the main characters, but James Gunn already said that the series will be strongly interconnected with the movies, so the crossover between Blue Beetle and Booster Gold isn’t impossible to happen at all.

After all, if the studio wouldn’t be willing to greenlight a sequel, there’s still a chance we could see Blue Beetle’s upcoming character arc through crossover movies that we are surely expecting to eventually start arriving in DCU.

‘Blue Beetle’ is now playing in theaters worldwide.
