With less than 2 weeks to go until ‘Street Fighter’ reaches theaters, Capcom’s most famous fighters are everywhere. Trailers, arcade booths, fashion collaborations and cast photocalls have turned the movie into one of the busiest promotional campaigns of the season, and Callina Liang has become one of the most visible faces of the ‘Street Fighter’ press cycle.

The campaign began on a global scale, with a Tokyo screening that launched the World Warrior Tour and a playable trailer on YouTube. Since then, the cast has moved through London and Los Angeles, with each stop delivering a fresh round of images for fans to dissect.

The newest image set comes from Cinethology, which shared photos of Callina Liang for ‘Street Fighter‘ press on October 3. In one frame, she leans against a wall in a fitted corset-style bodice with lace detailing and an asymmetrical skirt with a floral lace hem, her hair pulled back. In the other, she sits on a chair in the same outfit, with camera equipment visible behind her.

The polished look continues a run of high-profile appearances for the actress who plays Chun-Li. A press appearance on October 2 featured a glossy red satin halter top with a scarf tied at the neck and delicate chains, with her hair slicked back.

Liang has been part of the promotional push in multiple cities. On October 1, she joined castmates Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji and Olivier Richters at a ‘Street Fighter’ photocall on Leake Street in London.

Shortly after, the film took over ComplexCon in Los Angeles with a booth that featured retro arcade cabinets, a life-sized Bonus Stage car and an exclusive collection from Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment Design label. Liang was photographed at the booth, adding to the sense that Chun-Li is the face of the campaign.

The press looks stand in contrast to the gritty version of Chun-Li seen on screen. A behind-the-scenes image released in September showed her blue outfit scuffed and torn, with dirt and marks streaking across her arms.

Coverage of the film says the filmmakers drew inspiration from the ‘Street Fighter II’ aesthetic rather than later, more ornate designs, which explains the studded collar and signature hairstyle. Liang has been photographed in the blue spiked outfit during the Japan tour as well.

Reports describe a demanding routine as Liang prepared to become Chun-Li, the kick-heavy fighter fans know from the games. She trained about 2 hours a day in Taekwondo, Muay Thai and Wushu, worked on leg strength and studied every version of ‘Street Fighter’ on PlayStation 5 to learn the character’s moves. Reports also say she ate 12 eggs a day during a bulking phase.

She was cast in June 2025, and filming ran from August to November 2025 in Australia. The movie reportedly shot under the working title ‘Punch’.

Set in 1993, the story follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, played by Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo, who are recruited by Chun-Li for the next World Warrior Tournament. Their journey exposes a deadly conspiracy involving M. Bison, played by David Dastmalchian.

The cast also includes Jason Momoa, Cody Rhodes, 50 Cent, Roman Reigns and Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki. Director Kitao Sakurai replaced the original filmmakers, and the project marks the third live-action adaptation of the franchise.

The response online has been loud but divided. Fan reaction to the broader cast has been described as mixed since the announcement, while many viewers have praised Liang’s look as Chun-Li and joked they would watch the movie for her alone.

Others have raised concerns about the script and direction, and the film’s casting strategy leaned on talent from wrestling and MMA backgrounds to make the fight scenes feel authentic. The real test will come when audiences see it on the big screen, and the opening weekend should show whether the marketing blitz translated into ticket sales.

‘Street Fighter’ arrives in U.S. theaters and IMAX on October 16, distributed by Paramount Pictures and produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom. Some countries will see it a little earlier, including France on October 14.
