Captain Marvel, Terminator, and Secret Invasion? Just Maybe…

Captain Marvel is going to space. Or at least that’s where the movie will base most of its exploits from.

Kevin Feige, in a conversation with Total Film, said, “Much of the movie takes place in outer space…” While this isn’t anything new, as Captain Marvel does the same in comic books, it does shed some light on precisely how much time will be spent off the planet. This statement may also help explain where the most powerful Avenger has been for the last 25 years of MCU continuity.

He continued to tell Total Film that the movie will draw heavy influence from the 1990’s and that it will even take place in the era. “These are definitely homages to our favorite ’90s action films”. This means that Captain Marvel will incorporate music, fashion, and movies from the era.

Then a bombshell was dropped. He made a very clear reference to quite possibly the greatest 90’s sci-fi movie, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Car chase scenes, crashes, and visuals well ahead of its time, Terminator 2: Judgement Day…

Secret Invasion

Many, including myself, have speculated that Captain Marvel will either tie into or directly lead to Secret Invasion. Secret Invasion, aside from being a fan favorite story from the last 20 years, is heavily influenced by the Skrulls. Now that Disney has acquired Fox, they are now free to utilize the Skrulls in whichever way they choose.

And I for one, couldn’t be more excited.

Secret Invasion sees the planned invasion of Earth by the Skrulls. To do this they strategically and systematically capture and replace some of Earth’s mightiest heroes.

And they do.

  • Hank Pym
  • Spider-Woman
  • Beast
  • Emma Frost
  • Vision
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Luke Cage

Gone and replaced as Skrulls. With so many characters back under the Marvel Umbrella, Secret Invasion could become an event bigger than Infinity War.

This only means the stranglehold that Marvel has on the industry will only become tighter.

Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters in March of 2019.

Cheers,

Joel
