Leicester Square turned into a scene straight out of Greek mythology this week as Hollywood’s biggest names descended on London for a night that fans had been anticipating for months. The city’s iconic Odeon Luxe theater became the backdrop for one of the most star-studded gatherings the British capital has seen in years. Excitement had been building steadily as the cast made their way through a whirlwind schedule of photocalls and press appearances leading up to the big night.

Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic finally had its moment in the spotlight, and the cast did not disappoint when it came to red carpet glamour. A towering wooden Trojan horse loomed over the venue, setting the tone for an evening steeped in mythology and spectacle. Screaming fans lined the sandy-themed carpet, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars.

Among the standout looks of the night were Charlize Theron and Zendaya, who posed together for photographers in stunning, contrasting outfits. Theron, who plays the nymph Calypso in the film, wore a sleek black ensemble that radiated old Hollywood elegance. Zendaya, who takes on the role of the goddess Athena, later changed into a shimmering green and grey look after debuting an all-white outfit earlier in the evening.

The pair were joined on the carpet by an ensemble that read like a who’s who of modern cinema, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o. Also spotted were Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton, Himesh Patel, and musician Travis Scott, all turning out to celebrate Nolan’s latest cinematic undertaking. It marked something of a homecoming for British cast members like Holland, Pattinson, and Goth.

The Odyssey‘ follows the legendary Greek hero on his long and treacherous journey home from the Trojan War, with Damon leading the ensemble as Odysseus. Holland plays his son Telemachus, while Hathaway takes on the role of his devoted wife Penelope. Pattinson rounds out the central cast as Antinous, the scheming suitor determined to claim Penelope’s hand and the throne of Ithaca in Odysseus’s absence.

Speaking about the massive scale of the production, Damon reflected on just how demanding the shoot turned out to be. “It felt like it felt like six or seven movies in one,” he told Variety, adding that each location brought its own unique set of technical hurdles. He went on to say the challenges of filming at this scale were unlike anything he had encountered in his career, according to the same interview with Variety.

Zendaya also opened up about how her time on the project deepened her connection to the source material. Speaking in a video interview, she shared that she now has a greater appreciation for Greek mythology that she plans to carry into future roles. She noted that so many stories that came after can trace their roots back to this age-old tale, and mused on what that continuity says about human nature.

The ‘Euphoria’ star also touched on the emotional experience of watching her real-life husband and co-star, Tom Holland, on screen playing Odysseus’s son. Their off-screen romance has only added to the buzz surrounding the film, especially since the couple will soon reunite for the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ installment. Fans on social media have already flooded timelines with reactions to the pair’s joint red carpet appearance in London.

The premiere comes as Nolan follows up his Oscar-winning success with ‘Oppenheimer,’ which became one of his highest-grossing films worldwide. Industry watchers are predicting a similarly massive opening for ‘The Odyssey’ when it hits North American theaters on July 17.
