Big budget epics have always leaned on sprawling press tours to build momentum before release, but few filmmakers treat the promotional circuit quite like an extension of the story itself. Christopher Nolan’s mythic action epic has spent the past week proving exactly that, with its global rollout expanding city by city into one of the more ambitious release campaigns of the year.

The Odyssey‘ officially launched its world tour in London, where Nolan joined stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland for a rooftop photo call ahead of Monday’s world premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square. The London stop set the tone for what has become a genuinely global campaign, with Universal Pictures confirming that the tour would next continue on to Paris, Mumbai, and New York.

Mumbai’s inclusion marked a particularly significant milestone on its own, since it represents the first time Nolan has ever premiered one of his films in India, with the filmmaker set to appear alongside Damon, Holland, and producer Emma Thomas at a dedicated IMAX screening in the city. That four-city itinerary already made for an unusually packed schedule, but the tour has since grown even further.

Universal has now confirmed that the promotional push will extend to Beijing and Seoul as well, rounding out a six-city global campaign unlike anything Nolan has undertaken before. Matt Damon confirmed the expanded itinerary directly, telling People that the tour would include stops across Europe along with premieres in Mumbai, Beijing, and Seoul, calling it simply “a big push.”

The Seoul stop carries particular weight given Nolan’s history with Korean audiences. Local exhibitors have reportedly nicknamed the country “Nolan’s country” after his films, including “Interstellar,” “Dunkirk,” “Tenet,” and “Oppenheimer,” collectively drew more than 36 million admissions there, making this trip his first ever official visit to the country despite that deep box office connection.

Nolan expressed genuine excitement about finally making the trip in person, writing in a handwritten note released through Universal that he felt deeply grateful for the support Korean audiences have shown his films over the years and was especially glad the release would finally bring him to Seoul. Damon and Charlize Theron are both expected to join him for the stop, which will include a press conference, fan events, and a red carpet premiere ahead of the film’s South Korean release on August 5.

For Damon, the Seoul visit marks his first return to the country in a decade, following earlier trips tied to “Elysium” in 2013 and “Jason Bourne” in 2016, while Theron will be making her first official press visit to Korea entirely. Damon also noted he plans to bring family along for parts of the tour, saying his children have grown accustomed to traveling internationally alongside his work.

Beyond the promotional spectacle, the sheer scale of the production itself has helped fuel anticipation ahead of these stops. ‘The Odyssey’ was shot across six countries using IMAX cameras exclusively, making it the first feature film ever captured entirely on that format, and the ensemble cast rounds out with Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, and Samantha Morton joining Damon, Hathaway, and Holland.

Which stop on The Odyssey global tour are you most excited about?

With the film opening in North America on July 17 and rolling out to additional territories throughout the following weeks, this expanded six-city tour signals just how much weight Universal is putting behind Nolan’s retelling of Homer’s foundational epic. Whether the global buzz translates into record-breaking numbers at the box office will become clearer once the film actually reaches audiences in each of these markets.
