The streets of Hell’s Kitchen just got a lot more crowded, and now a tiny newcomer has fans wondering if she might one day trade a crib for the Captain America shield.

In Marvel Comics, Danielle Cage grows up to become Captain America in some future timelines. That character already exists in the MCU after Danielle, the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, was introduced in the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 episodes, and showrunner Dario Scardapane isn’t shutting down the possibility entirely.

The child’s introduction marks a significant expansion of the street-level MCU that Scardapane is carefully orchestrating.

According to Scardapane, having Jessica’s extended family and Luke’s world expand has been part of the plan since day one. What started as rumors about returning Netflix heroes has bloomed into confirmed appearances, with Luke Cage returning in the Season 2 finale and set photos confirming both Luke and Iron Fist will play substantial roles in the upcoming third season.

The elephant in the room, however, is Danielle’s comic book future. When asked directly about the character possibly becoming Captain America down the line, Scardapane offered a measured but intriguing response.

He noted that ideas from Marvel Comics serve as inspiration but acknowledged the creative freedom the show possesses. In some future timelines in the comics, Danielle Cage becomes Captain America. Scardapane’s approach to the character reflects a larger philosophy: any character arc must be earned within the story first and foremost, not simply because it worked in print.

The question of who wears the shield next has dominated MCU conversations as the Multiverse Saga unfolds. The most realistic outcome after Daredevil: Born Again confirms Danielle Cage’s existence is that fans would have to wait another 5-10 years or more to see her become Captain America.

It’s a long game, but Scardapane seems content to let these pieces move at their own pace. For now, Danielle is just a toddler caught between her legendary parents, her future unwritten. Whether that future includes a red, white, and blue suit remains one of Marvel’s most delicious open questions. What do you think—should Danielle eventually follow her parents’ path to heroism, or does the MCU need a fresh take on the Captain America mantle?
