David Corenswet is about to become the next Superman, and while fans are counting down the days until James Gunn’s Superman hits theaters, the actor recently shared something pretty heartwarming. In a chat with Beat 102 103, Corenswet revealed that after he landed the role, he actually exchanged letters with the two most recent Supermen before him, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin.

Corenswet said that both actors were kind and supportive in their messages. “Both of them interestingly said in their own words, ‘I’m not gonna try to give you any tips.’ They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of ‘have fun with it,’” he shared.

It’s no surprise that Cavill and Hoechlin reached out. After all, both men played Superman for years. Cavill starred in the DCEU, starting with Man of Steel and continuing through several other films.

Hoechlin, on the other hand, became the Arrowverse’s Superman, appearing in Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and of course, Superman & Lois, which just recently ended its run.

Their support shows that there’s a real sense of respect and friendship between actors who have taken on this huge role. Corenswet didn’t mention any tension or drama, just a lot of encouragement.

But that doesn’t mean the fans are all on the same page. Some people are still upset that Henry Cavill isn’t coming back as Superman. After Cavill’s departure from the role, a part of the fandom wasn’t happy.

In fact, there were even small online campaigns trying to boycott the new film and push for Cavill’s return. Still, that doesn’t seem to have affected Corenswet’s positive outlook or the way he speaks about those who came before him.

As for Hoechlin, most fans really liked his version of the character. He brought a grounded, kind-hearted Superman to the screen. But there have been rumors about why Superman & Lois ended, with some whispers saying that it was partly because James Gunn didn’t want a different Superman show running while his movie was coming out.

Elizabeth Tulloch, who played Lois on the show, even hinted that this might have been the case.

Even so, it sounds like there’s no bad blood. Corenswet made it clear that both Cavill and Hoechlin were welcoming and encouraging, choosing to pass the torch with kindness rather than advice. And as he gets ready to wear the iconic cape, it’s clear he’s stepping into the role with excitement and support from the men who’ve been there before.
