Delta and Crunchyroll Join Forces to Stream Anime on Flights
Anime fans flying with Delta Air Lines have something to look forward to this year. Thanks to a new deal with Crunchyroll, passengers will soon be able to watch thousands of anime shows and movies right from the seatback screens on their flights. According to TheWrap, over 2,000 titles with more than 50,000 episodes and films will be available, adding up to about 25,000 hours of anime content.
Crunchyroll is carefully selecting the best shows and movies to offer a mix of action, adventure, romance, and more. Rahul Purini, Crunchyroll’s President, shared his excitement about this new way to enjoy anime. He said, “There is nothing better on a long flight than immersing yourself in the rich storytelling and world-building of anime. Fans can go deep on one series or sample one episode of many series – from action to adventure, romance and more. And when they get hooked they can continue their experience on the Crunchyroll app.”
The partnership is designed to help travelers pass the time by discovering new favorites or catching up on beloved series while in the air. Delta is also offering special perks for their SkyMiles members. If they use Delta Sync Wi-Fi on their personal devices, they will get a 24-hour trial to Crunchyroll’s full library. This trial can be used during the flight or saved for later, though some rules may apply.
Julieta McCurry, Delta’s Vice President of In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity, explained how this fits into Delta’s goals. She said, “At Delta, we see every flight as an opportunity for discovery. Whether you’re diving into the anime genre for the first time or continuing a favorite series, bringing Crunchyroll to Delta gives our customers access to a world of storytelling while onboard and beyond. It’s part of Delta’s commitment to delivering industry-leading entertainment that reflects the passions and interests of our customers.”
Crunchyroll is a joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment in the U.S. and Japan’s Aniplex, which is a part of Sony Music Entertainment Japan. Though it operates independently, it’s backed by Sony’s Tokyo-based group. This new partnership with Delta is sure to make long flights much more fun for anyone who loves anime.
