Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day is shaping up to be one of the biggest original film releases of the decade, with early pre-sales and box office tracking pointing to a major opening weekend.

According to industry reports, the film’s pre-sales are already among the strongest seen for any original movie this decade. The sci-fi project is now tracking for a domestic opening between $43 million and $53 million, putting it in direct competition with Sinners for the title of biggest original film launch of the 2020s.

Disclosure Day is a 2026 science fiction film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg. The screenplay was written by David Koepp, based on a story by Spielberg himself. The film features a major ensemble cast including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.

The project was first reported in April 2024, when it was revealed that Spielberg was developing a UFO-themed film with Koepp writing the script. Over the following months, Universal Pictures came on board as the distributor, and Emily Blunt was cast in the lead role. Production moved quickly after that, with filming taking place between February and May 2025 across New York, New Jersey, and Atlanta.

The film had its world premiere at Le Grand Rex in Paris on June 2. Its United States theatrical release is scheduled for June 12. Ahead of the domestic release, early projections from Boxoffice Pro estimated an opening weekend in the range of $40 million to $50 million. Another industry report from Puck suggested that the film may need to cross the $300 million mark globally in order to break even.

Early reactions to the film have been mostly positive. Critics have highlighted Emily Blunt’s performance as one of the strongest elements of the movie. Some early reviews have even gone as far as calling it “Spielberg’s best film in 20 years,” pointing to a strong return to form for the legendary director.

The combination of strong early buzz, a well-known director, and a star-heavy cast has helped push Disclosure Day into one of the most closely watched releases of 2026. The film’s performance is now being tracked not only as a major studio release, but also as a key test for original science fiction storytelling in today’s box office environment.

With opening weekend projections continuing to rise, industry analysts are watching closely to see whether Disclosure Day can meet expectations and potentially become one of Spielberg’s most commercially successful modern films.
