Disney and Marvel Say “No” to Sharing ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Nicepool Info in Justin Baldoni Case
Disney and Marvel are refusing to hand over information about Deadpool & Wolverine to filmmaker Justin Baldoni. Baldoni and his team want documents as part of a legal fight involving Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, but Disney says the info is too secret.
Justin Baldoni is in a legal battle connected to It Ends With Us, a movie he directed and starred in. Actress Blake Lively accused Baldoni of harassment, and things have gotten very messy. Baldoni’s lawyers say Ryan Reynolds, Lively’s husband, is involved in spreading false stories about him.
Now, Baldoni’s team wants Marvel to share details about how a character called “Nicepool” was created in Deadpool & Wolverine. They believe this character mocks Baldoni. Marvel doesn’t want to share those details.
In court letters, Baldoni’s lawyers wrote: “Nicepool is a defamatory and mocking portrayal of Baldoni.”
They added that they tried to narrow the request just to info about Reynolds’ involvement:
“The Wayfarer Parties have proposed, in good faith and to avoid any undue burden upon Marvel, to narrow the Subpoena to documents concerning Reynolds’ participation in the development of Nicepool and communications concerning Baldoni.”
They also said: “Marvel will not be prejudiced if the Court declines to stay compliance with the Subpoena because the film has already been released, and any non-public documents can be marked ‘confidential’ pursuant to the Protective Order.”
Disney isn’t having it. They don’t want to reveal anything that could spoil future Marvel movies or hurt Ryan Reynolds’ role in the MCU.
In a letter from Disney’s lawyers, they said: “The requested documents are particularly sensitive because they relate to the development of a character in an ongoing movie franchise.”
They added: “Marvel has built the success of the MCU in large part by interconnecting storylines, plots, and characters… Whether and how such elements will appear in upcoming, unreleased projects is the subject of much public interest, and this information is closely guarded by Marvel.”
They also said sharing this information would hurt Marvel, while Baldoni’s team wouldn’t be harmed by waiting: “The discovery sought from Marvel is broad, disclosure of these confidential documents would prejudice Marvel… At the same time, the Wayfarer Parties would not be prejudiced by a stay.”
There’s no decision yet on whether Marvel has to give up the documents. The court case is still building, with a trial not set to begin until March 2026. Until then, expect more legal drama, and likely more arguments about Deadpool, Nicepool, and who’s mocking who.
