Disney Makes History as the Only Studio to Cross This Milestone in 2025
Disney Studios has officially passed $6 billion in worldwide box office revenue for 2025, becoming the first and only major studio to reach this milestone this year.
According to sources tracking box office numbers, Disney has earned $2.3 billion domestically, the highest for any studio in the U.S. so far, and $3.65 billion from international markets.
The achievement came slightly ahead of schedule, boosted by the global success of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has already earned over $450 million worldwide. Warner Bros, the next closest major studio, has earned $4.3 billion so far this year according to Deadline.
This marks Disney’s fifth time surpassing $6 billion globally, following 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. The studio’s 2025 success was driven by 16 wide releases, including two billion-dollar hits: Zootopia 2, which has made $1.3 billion, and Lilo & Stitch, which earned over $1.038 billion. Three Marvel Studios movies—The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts, and Captain America: Brave New World—also performed strongly, combining for over $1.3 billion worldwide.
Other contributors include Predator: Badlands, which became the highest-grossing film in its 38-year franchise with nearly $184 million, and Freakier Friday, which earned $153.1 million. While films like Tron: Ares ($142.2 million) and Pixar’s Elio ($154.2 million) underperformed, they still added to Disney’s total.
Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to perform strongly, collecting $50.8 million worldwide in a single day, including $16.5 million from North America. The threequel’s total now stands at $119 million domestically and $331.1 million internationally, with China contributing $67 million in overseas revenue.
According to box office trackers, the film recorded the second-largest global opening for a Disney title this year, after Zootopia 2 ($560.3 million), and is the second-biggest opening for a Cameron-directed Avatar sequel, following 2022’s Avatar: Way of Water.
Disney’s 2025 box office performance highlights the continuing power of theatrical releases and the studio’s ability to deliver hits across multiple franchises.
Disney’s success shows how strong its films remain globally, from animation to Marvel and blockbuster sequels like Avatar. It’s clear audiences are still eager to see big movies on the big screen. What do you think about Disney hitting $6 billion this year? Share your thoughts in the comments.
