Despite what you might think about the Marvel Cinematic Universe these days, one thing Marvel Studios always does great is casting, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange is one of many great examples of how Marvel Studios knows which actors must be picked for certain roles.

Cumberbatch first debuted as Doctor Stephen Strange in 2016’s ‘Doctor Strange,’ after which he reprised the role in ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ and his standalone sequel ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ In all of these projects, Cumberbatch’s performance as Doctor Strange has always been widely praised, and given that he’s now one of the most important MCU characters, the fans surely can’t wait to see him again.

Benedict Cumberbatch reveals when he will return to the MCU!

Following the release of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ it was obvious that Doctor Strange would eventually return, but it’s still unknown in which project he’s going to return since it’s pretty likely that we’re going to see him in at least one MCU project ahead of his own, officially still unannounced ‘Doctor Strange 3.’

Cumberbatch recently spoke with Nick Hackworth at JW3 Speaker Series. And at one moment, the actor revealed that he’s set to return for a Marvel film that should start filming next year. Cumberbatch didn’t reveal in which movie he’s set to make an appearance, but if the movie will be filmed next year, there are a few possible options.

“There are some Marvel capers in the making next year.”

If a movie starts filming next year, it won’t be released before the end of 2024. Currently, Marvel Studios has two movies set to be released in 2025; ‘Blade’ and ‘Fantastic Four,’ which are set to be released in February and May 2025, respectively. The next announced movie after that is ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ which is set to be released in May 2026.

Now, given that ‘Fantastic Four’ and ‘The Kang Dynasty’ are one year apart, there’s a good chance some still unannounced movie will arrive during the Fall of 2025, and it wouldn’t surprise us if that would indeed be ‘Doctor Strange 3.’

Since it hasn’t been officially announced yet, there’s nothing much to know about ‘Doctor Strange 3.’ The only thing we can say with certainty is that Cumberbatch will return, and we’re also expecting the return of Charlize Theron as Clea since her team-up with Master of the Mystic Arts has been set up in the mid-credit scene of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’

All the MCU movies featuring Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, except ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ are now streaming on Disney+.
