Iyoku played a central role in Dragon Ball DAIMA, which aired from October 2024 to February 2025. The series, produced by Toei Animation, is set between the events of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super.
It tells the story of a new threat to Earth after Majin Buu’s defeat and Dabura’s death. The villain Gomah, Supreme King of the Demon Realm, kidnaps Dende and uses the Dragon Balls to weaken Goku and his allies, leaving Earth vulnerable and forcing the heroes to face a challenging new battle.
Critics and fans have generally responded positively to Dragon Ball DAIMA. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a 100% approval rating based on five reviews, with an average rating of 7/10. While pre-release opinions were mixed, the series quickly earned praise for its action and nostalgia.
Joshua Fox of Screen Rant described it as “what the anime fans had waited decades for”, highlighting both the fight choreography and the humor. CBR’s Daniel Kurland gave episodes seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen top scores, calling them “perfect” and “cinematic,” praising the visuals and battles, particularly those involving Goku and Vegeta. The nineteenth episode, “Betrayal,” reportedly broke records as the highest-rated anime episode of 2025.
Despite the acclaim, some viewers noted pacing issues. Certain fans felt the story was both slow and rushed at different points. The English dub was generally well-received, though some criticized its delayed streaming schedule.
With Iyoku hinting at more Dragon Ball content, it seems likely that fans will soon hear official news about the next installment. The confirmation from someone so closely tied to Toriyama adds credibility to hopes of a continuation, potentially giving fans a new season to look forward to.
The announcement of a possible second season is exciting. Dragon Ball DAIMA brought fresh energy to the franchise while honoring its legacy, and the success of episodes like “Betrayal” shows the series still has plenty to offer.
Fans have waited a long time for high-quality Dragon Ball content, and this could be the next big chapter. What do you think? Will Dragon Ball DAIMA Season 2 meet expectations, or are you skeptical? Share your thoughts in the comments.
