Matt and Ross Duffer, the duo behind Stranger Things, are already planning their next chapter after the end of their hit series. While fans are getting ready to say goodbye to Eleven and the Upside Down, the Duffer brothers are heading in a totally new direction, and it’s got nothing to do with monsters or portals.

As reported by Deadline, their next project is a crime drama based on the novel The Savage, Noble Death of Babs Dionne by Ron Currie. It’s a big shift from the supernatural, but still full of mystery and drama.

The story centers around Babs Dionne, a grandmother who lives in a quiet town, but she’s also the head of a local crime family. Things take a turn when her youngest daughter dies under strange and messy circumstances, and Babs sets out to find the truth. The novel came out in late March and has already earned spots on several “Best of 2025” lists, including those from NPR, Amazon, Apple Books, The Guardian, and Barnes & Noble.

Ron Currie will write the script for the show along with Joshua Mohr, and both are joining the Duffers as executive producers on the project.

While this new series doesn’t have a release date yet, the Duffers are still deeply involved with Netflix. Their biggest show, Stranger Things, is wrapping up its fifth and final season this year. The episodes are being released in three parts: the first four in November, then three more in December, and finally the last episode arrives on December 31.

That’s not all they’re working on either. The Duffers are also producing The Boroughs, a supernatural mystery set in a New Mexico retirement community. The cast includes Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, and Alfre Woodard. That show is being made with Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, who are writing and creating it.

They’ve also got another show coming up called Something Very Bad is Going to Happen. It’s a psychological horror series about a wedding that turns dark. Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco are starring in it, and Haley Z is also producing alongside the Duffers. Both of these shows are expected to come out in 2026.

Even though Stranger Things is ending, the world of the show is still growing. An animated spinoff called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is in development, and there’s a live-action spinoff planned too. So Hawkins isn’t going away completely, just changing.

The Duffers are clearly not slowing down. Their next projects may not feature Demogorgons or telekinesis, but they’re still diving into strange and intense stories. With The Savage, Noble Death of Babs Dionne, they’re exploring a different kind of mystery, one that might hit closer to home.
