‘Dune: Part Three’ Presale Demand Explodes Again, With Fans Facing Hour-Long Amc Queues
Ticket presales for major blockbusters rarely generate genuine suspense, but Warner Bros. has managed to turn ‘Dune: Part Three’s’ rollout into a recurring spectacle. Each new wave of tickets has arrived with its own wave of frenzied demand, and this latest round appears to be no exception.
That pattern traces back to earlier this year, when the film’s first batch of IMAX 70mm tickets sold out almost instantly across a limited number of global locations. Since then, every subsequent presale window has drawn similarly intense reactions from fans determined to secure seats for Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy-closing chapter months ahead of its actual release.
This week’s presale wave has proven no different. According to reports circulating online, fans attempting to purchase tickets for premium IMAX screenings at AMC Theatres in the United States were met with wait times stretching to nearly an hour, with virtual queue systems reporting estimated waits as long as 54 minutes just to access the ticketing site.
That level of demand marks the third consecutive round of presales to trigger this kind of overwhelming response, according to accounts tracking the rollout. Fans entering AMC’s queue system were shown messages warning them to keep their browser windows open to avoid losing their place in line, with only a 20-minute window to complete a purchase once their turn arrived.
The surge in demand lines up with the film’s carefully staggered ticket release strategy. Warner Bros. has been rolling out access in phases, starting with limited fan screenings in IMAX 70mm on December 14, expanding to include digital IMAX locations on December 15, followed by traditional Thursday previews on December 17 ahead of the film’s wide release on December 18.
That December 18 release date carries added significance given what else is opening the same day. ‘Dune: Part Three’ shares its release with Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ setting up a head-to-head box office battle that’s already being closely watched across the industry, with fans nicknaming the collision “Dunesday.”
Much of the enthusiasm driving these repeated presale surges ties back to the film’s production choices. ‘Dune: Part Three’ was partially shot using IMAX film cameras, following in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ as only the second production to use the format’s newer, lighter camera technology, a detail that’s fueled speculation about just how immersive the theatrical presentation will ultimately be.
Directed by Villeneuve from a screenplay he co-wrote with Brian K. Vaughan, ‘Dune: Part Three’ adapts Frank Herbert’s novel ‘Dune Messiah,’ continuing the story of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides as he navigates a fractured empire seventeen years after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two.’ The film reunites Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Anya Taylor-Joy, while introducing Robert Pattinson and Isaach de Bankolé to the ensemble.
Behind the camera, the production reassembles much of the trilogy’s award-winning creative team, including cinematographer Linus Sandgren, editor Joe Walker, and composer Hans Zimmer, all contributing to what Villeneuve has described as the most personal and action-driven chapter of the three films.
Principal photography wrapped in November 2025 after filming across Budapest and Abu Dhabi, giving the production nearly a full year of post-production and marketing runway before release. That extended lead time appears to be paying off, with each new ticket wave generating the kind of grassroots urgency studios typically hope for but rarely achieve this consistently.
With three rounds of presales now behind the film and December still months away, ‘Dune: Part Three’ shows no signs of losing momentum heading into its climactic release weekend. Whether that enthusiasm translates into record-breaking opening numbers against ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ remains to be seen, but the ticketing frenzy alone suggests audiences are treating this release as a genuine event.
