Elon Musk Says Grok Will Create an AI-Made Odyssey Film by the End of the Year
Elon Musk is turning his attention toward one of the biggest movies of the year, but not by making a sequel or joining the production. Instead, the tech billionaire says his AI tool Grok Imagine will create its own version of Homer’s ancient epic poem, The Odyssey.
Musk recently addressed Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey for the first time since the film’s release and box office success. In a post shared on his social media platform X, Musk claimed that Grok Imagine will produce a full-length movie adaptation of the legendary Greek story before the end of 2026.
According to Musk, the AI-made version will aim to stay closer to the original source material. He wrote that Grok Imagine will make a “historically accurate” version of The Odyssey that is “true to the art of Homer.” He shared the statement alongside a three-minute AI-generated short inspired by the ancient epic that was posted by another X user.
“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” Musk wrote.
The announcement immediately raised questions about what Musk means by “historically accurate.” Homer’s The Odyssey is a nearly 3,000-year-old epic filled with mythical creatures and supernatural events, including Cyclopes, sea monsters, magical transformations and gods interfering with human lives. Because of that, many viewers questioned how any version of the story could be considered historically accurate.
Musk’s comments also come after he previously criticized some of Christopher Nolan’s casting choices for the film. Before The Odyssey was released, Musk publicly objected to Lupita Nyong’o being cast in the movie, claiming the decision was made for awards recognition. He also commented on casting discussions surrounding Elliot Page, who was later confirmed to play Sinon rather than Achilles.
Those earlier comments have led some people online to interpret Musk’s idea of a “historically accurate” adaptation as being connected to his criticism of the movie’s casting. The AI short he shared featured an all-white cast, which further fueled those discussions.
However, despite Musk’s previous criticism, Nolan’s The Odyssey has become a major success story. The film has performed strongly at the global box office, earning hundreds of millions of dollars shortly after release and becoming one of the biggest hits of Nolan’s career.

The movie’s success has also increased interest in Homer’s original story, creating more conversation around different ways the epic could be adapted for modern audiences. Whether Grok Imagine can actually produce a full movie by the end of 2026 remains to be seen. For now, Musk’s announcement has added another unexpected chapter to the ongoing conversation around The Odyssey and how one of history’s oldest stories continues to be reimagined.
