Eric André has shared a funny and very personal story about how he was still using his ex’s Netflix account right up until he landed a role in the upcoming film Little Brother. The actor and comedian opened up about it during a conversation with PEOPLE at the 2026 Netflix Upfront event in New York City on May 13.

He explained that things only changed once he officially joined a Netflix project. After getting cast in Little Brother, he said he was finally able to sort out his own access again through the company.

“The only reason I got back on my account that I was locked out of for years is because I made this movie and I talked to people very high up in Netflix to get back in,” André said, according to PEOPLE. He also joked about how far he was willing to go to fix the situation, adding, “Yeah, I was literally just shy of asking Ted.” He was referring to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos.

Little Brother is a comedy film directed by Matt Spicer. It follows a quiet and controlled real estate agent played by John Cena whose life suddenly changes when his chaotic younger brother, played by André, shows up out of nowhere. The film also features Michelle Monaghan, Christopher Meloni, Sherry Cola, Ego Nwodim, and Caleb Hearon in supporting roles.

André spoke warmly about working with Cena. He said the experience felt natural and fun, almost like a real sibling dynamic on set. “John’s the best. He’s a goat. He’s goated, man. He can do it all — comedy, drama, wrestling,” André said.

He also described their working relationship as playful and close. According to him, they built a “little brother, big brother” energy while filming. He added, “Yeah, we went method for this one. And it got a little bromantic.”

John Cena also talked about working with André in an interview with PEOPLE. He said he was already a fan of André’s comedy style and found him very unique in the industry. “I have not laughed out loud so much as long as I can remember,” Cena said. He also praised André’s creativity, saying the script was a perfect fit for him.

Cena added that André brings a very different energy compared to other comedians. He explained that working in comedy feels similar to wrestling in some ways because everyone has their own style. “There’s no real wrong way to do comedy, and everybody kind of has a different perspective,” Cena said.

He also described André as unpredictable but talented, saying, “He’s crazy, but so thoughtful, and his mind is always working, and it’s just awesome to see.”

Little Brother is set to premiere on Netflix on June 26. The film is already drawing attention not only for its cast but also for the real-life friendship and chemistry between its two leads.
