The Season 3 finale of Euphoria delivered one of the show’s biggest surprises when Bishop betrayed Alamo Brown, leading directly to the crime boss’s death. Now, actor Darrell Britt-Gibson has shared new details about what was really going through Bishop’s mind and why the character decided to make his move.

Speaking to Variety after the finale aired, Britt-Gibson opened up about the shocking twist and revealed that Bishop’s decision had been building for a long time.

In the episode, Alamo kills Rue after giving her fentanyl-laced painkillers. Her death sends Ali on a mission for revenge, leading to a tense showdown between the two men. During the duel, Alamo attempts to fire his weapon first, but nothing happens. Viewers later discover that Bishop secretly removed the bullets from the gun, leaving Alamo defenseless and allowing Ali to kill him.

According to Britt-Gibson, Bishop’s actions were not simply about taking power for himself.

“Bishop didn’t agree with a lot of what Alamo did, but it was a job for him,” the actor told Variety. “I think what Alamo did to Rue was the final straw for Bishop.”

While Bishop often appeared cold and emotionless throughout the season, Britt-Gibson believes there was more happening beneath the surface. He explained that Bishop may not have openly shown concern for Rue, but he viewed her differently than many fans realized.

The actor suggested that Bishop sometimes acted like a tough older brother figure, someone who understood that Rue was surrounded by dangerous people and wanted her to stay away from that world. Even if he never expressed it directly, Rue’s death crossed a line that Bishop could not ignore.

Britt-Gibson also revealed that Bishop’s betrayal was not a spur-of-the-moment decision. When asked whether Bishop had been waiting for an opportunity to take down Alamo, the actor gave a simple answer.

“He’s been waiting. He’s so calculated. It’s chess. It’s always chess for Bishop.”

That careful and patient approach became one of the defining traits of the character throughout the season. Bishop rarely raised his voice, rarely showed strong emotions, and often seemed impossible to read. According to Britt-Gibson, that mystery was intentional from the beginning.

The actor explained that Euphoria creator Sam Levinson developed Bishop around ideas he brought to the role. Britt-Gibson imagined Bishop as someone who moved differently from everyone else around him.

“I had this idea of a character who moves more like a samurai in a world of cowboys,” he said. “Somebody who you can’t really figure out until it’s time to figure him out.”

Another interesting detail discussed during the interview was Bishop’s connection to animals. Throughout the season, viewers saw moments that hinted at a softer side, including references to his pet poodle, Snowflake.

“He loves animals,” Britt-Gibson explained, adding that Bishop often felt more connected to animals than people.

The actor also addressed theories that Bishop may be on the autism spectrum, saying it was something he considered while building the character. He wanted to portray Bishop with care and respect while giving him emotional depth beneath his quiet exterior.

As for Bishop’s mysterious past, fans hoping for answers may have to keep guessing. Britt-Gibson revealed that Levinson shared a detailed backstory with him, but he chose not to reveal it.

Instead, he wants viewers to continue forming their own opinions about one of Euphoria’s most fascinating and unpredictable characters.
