‘Euphoria’ Star Sydney Sweeney Nabs Lead Role in New ‘Sleepy Hollow’ Movie from Original Author
Sydney Sweeney is set to take on a new lead role in a fresh retelling of a classic American story, as a film adaptation of the upcoming novel Hollow is being developed with her attached as star and producer. The information comes from Deadline, which reported details about the book deal and film package.
The project comes from filmmaker and writer Lindsey Anderson Beer, who has sold her debut novel Hollow to Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House. According to the same report from Deadline, Beer is also planning to direct and adapt the book into a feature film.
The film version is being developed quickly. Production companies LuckyChap, Beer’s Lab Brew banner, and Sydney Sweeney’s Honey Trap banner are all involved in producing the project. This will also mark one of the first major film projects for Honey Trap after Sweeney expanded her producing work, as first reported by Deadline.
Sweeney is expected to play the lead role of Katrina Van Tassel. The story is based on a new version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, one of the most well-known pieces of early American literature.
The original Sleepy Hollow story comes from Washington Irving and was first published in 1820. It is deeply rooted in American folklore and has become a cultural reference point for over a century. The tale is known for its mix of mystery, fear, and superstition, centered around the famous figure of the Headless Horseman.
Over time, Sleepy Hollow has become a symbol of early American gothic storytelling, often linked with themes of isolation, fear of the unknown, and the tension between reason and superstition.
Because of its strong place in American culture, Sleepy Hollow has been adapted many times in film, television, and even animation. Each version has tried to reinterpret the eerie atmosphere of the original story while bringing something new to modern audiences. This new adaptation aims to do the same, but with a more character-driven and modern approach.

In this new version, Katrina Van Tassel is no longer just a background romantic figure. Instead, she becomes the center of the story. According to Deadline, the novel reimagines her as a key character caught in a dangerous mystery, with elements of romance and supernatural tension built into a darker, more modern style of storytelling.
The project blends gothic themes with psychological tension and a more intense emotional focus. It shifts the classic Sleepy Hollow world into a story that is described as a mix of mystery and thriller elements, while still keeping its historical roots.
Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to both write and direct the film adaptation. Her involvement in both the novel and the screenplay gives the project a consistent creative direction from page to screen. The production is also supported by LuckyChap, a company known for backing strong character-driven films, along with Sweeney’s Honey Trap banner.
According to Deadline, the novel was quickly picked up by Putnam after it generated strong interest in the publishing industry. The manuscript reportedly attracted attention from multiple studios and publishers before the rights were secured in a preemptive deal.
The book is planned for release in Fall 2027, and the film adaptation is expected to move forward in parallel with its publication timeline. Sources cited by Deadline also said the package is expected to be officially presented to the market soon.
With its mix of a well-known literary classic, a modern creative team, and a rising Hollywood star in the lead role, the project is already drawing attention as it develops.
