The ‘Yellowstone’ universe is moving south, and it is bringing some serious firepower along for the ride. ‘Dutton Ranch’ follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they gamble everything on a new life in South Texas, where the promise of building a future far from the ghosts of ‘Yellowstone’ quickly collides with new realities and a rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire.

The series serves as both a spinoff and a sequel to ‘Yellowstone’ and is the fifth television series in the ‘Yellowstone’ franchise. With a premiere date locked in and an ensemble that reads more like an awards ceremony guest list than a typical streaming cast, the buzz surrounding this show is unlike anything the Duttonverse has generated in years.

Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser Lead the ‘Dutton Ranch’ Cast Back Into the Wild

Kelly Reilly plays the formidable force that is Beth Dutton in ‘Dutton Ranch.’ Beth’s abrasive but effective methods, outrageous one-liners, and fierce loyalty will serve her well as she heads to Texas with her partner Rip Wheeler and adopted son Carter.

Back on ‘Yellowstone,’ everything Beth used to do was either for her father or for Rip. Now that her father is gone, as well as the original Dutton Ranch, she is finally making a life for herself and Rip, the man who keeps her grounded and in check. That shift in motivation gives Reilly an entirely fresh dramatic landscape to work across.

Reilly, who was typecast in comedic roles prior to taking on the role of Beth Dutton, has previously starred in the Sherlock Holmes movies opposite Robert Downey Jr. and also starred in ‘Britannia’ and the second season of ‘True Detective.’ Her transformation into Beth remains one of the most celebrated pieces of casting in recent television history.

Cole Hauser reprises his role as Rip Wheeler, the imposing and deeply loyal foreman whose entire world revolves around Beth and the land beneath his boots. Hauser’s return is arguably the emotional anchor of the entire series, with audiences having followed Rip’s arc across years of ‘Yellowstone’ drama.

The ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Cast Gets a Pair of Oscar Nominees

Oscar nominee Annette Bening plays Beulah Jackson in the new series. Beulah is described as the powerful, charming, and cunning head of a major ranch who believes in the power of family legacy. Bening squaring off against Reilly is the kind of casting decision that makes television fans genuinely excited about what a scene might look like before a single frame has aired.

Bening is probably best known for her roles in ‘The American President,’ ‘Regarding Henry,’ and ‘American Beauty,’ the latter of which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She is a five-time Academy Award nominee, as well as a BAFTA and Golden Globe winner. Bringing that kind of heavyweight credentials into the ‘Yellowstone’ world is a statement about where the franchise wants to sit culturally.

Oscar nominee Ed Harris brings his game to ‘Dutton Ranch’ as Everett McKinney, a good-humored and weathered veteran who serves as a veterinarian, treating animals with compassion and understanding. It is a character that sounds deceptively understated, which in a Taylor Sheridan production usually means there is considerably more going on beneath the surface.

Harris is probably best known for his roles in ‘Apollo 13,’ ‘The Truman Show,’ and as the titular character in ‘Pollock.’ His other credits include ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ ‘Westworld,’ and ‘Snowpiercer.’ His presence alongside Bening signals that ‘Dutton Ranch’ is clearly chasing prestige television territory with full intent.

Jai Courtney, Finn Little, and the Dutton Ranch Ensemble Complete the Picture

Jai Courtney joins the new series as Rob-Will, an imposing and unpredictable ranch foreman who will likely cause all types of trouble for Beth and Rip. Courtney’s previous credits include ‘Dangerous Animals,’ ‘A Good Day to Die Hard,’ ‘Terminator Genisys,’ and ‘War Machine.’ Courtney, who had originally been passed over in the casting process per earlier reports, ultimately landed a role that sounds tailor-made for his screen presence.

In July 2025, Finn Little was confirmed to reprise his role as Carter in the series. Carter’s place in the story is a meaningful one, with the series following Beth, Rip, and their surrogate son Carter as they head to Texas for a new start. Little’s return threads the emotional continuity between what audiences loved in ‘Yellowstone’ and where this new chapter is headed.

J.R. Villarreal plays Azul, a whipcord wrangler who becomes Rip’s right-hand man in Texas, while Marc Menchaca plays Zachariah, a newly released jailbird looking to rebuild his life as a cowboy and a wrangler. Natalie Alyn Lind joins the series as Oreana, a young woman with a wild and free spirit who is seen getting close with Carter in first-look images.

Country music sensation Morgan Wade joins the cast in a recurring role as Carol, a bartender who works at the local watering hole. That addition has attracted its own wave of curiosity among fans who follow country music as closely as they follow prestige drama.

Paramount Plus Premiere and the Behind-the-Scenes Story

‘Dutton Ranch’ will consist of nine episodes in total. The first two episodes will air on Paramount+ on Friday, May 15, 2026, with subsequent episodes airing on Fridays for the following weeks, culminating in the season finale, titled ‘El Padrino,’ just before Fourth of July celebrations.

Production of the series began in August 2025, taking place in Ferris, Texas. Greg Yaitanes, Jessica Lowrey, Phil Abraham, and Christina Alexandra Voros served as directors, with Voros directing the season premiere and finale episodes. The Texas setting is a deliberate departure from Montana and adds a new visual and tonal texture to the Duttonverse.

Ahead of the launch of the show, reports confirmed that showrunner Chad Feehan will not return for Season 2, having had creative differences with stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly. However, there is no indication this impacted the first season itself, and Christina Alexandra Voros remains an executive producer on the series. It is the kind of behind-the-scenes drama that would feel right at home in the show itself.

With two Oscar nominees, a cast packed with recognizable faces, and Beth Dutton finally getting to build something on her own terms, ‘Dutton Ranch’ arrives with more anticipation than any ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff has generated to date. Whether you are Team Beth, Team Rip, or simply here to watch Annette Bening run a rival ranch empire, share your predictions for which character is going to cause the most chaos in South Texas when the show kicks off.
