The Evil Dead franchise is returning with another bloody nightmare, and early reactions suggest fans are in for one of the wildest entries in the series so far.

The upcoming supernatural horror movie Evil Dead Burn has already started getting reviews from critics, and while many are praising its intensity and gore, others believe it pushes the violence too far.

Directed and co-written by Sébastien Vaniček and Florent Bernard, Evil Dead Burn is the sixth movie in the long-running Evil Dead series. The film follows the events of previous entries while telling a new standalone story. It is produced by Rob Tapert and franchise creator Sam Raimi, who helped launch the original horror phenomenon decades ago.

The story centers on Alice, a woman dealing with the death of her husband. She reunites with his family at a remote house, hoping for a quiet gathering. Instead, the reunion quickly turns into a nightmare when members of the family begin transforming into Deadites, bringing chaos and terror to the isolated location.

The movie stars Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Erroll Shand, and Maude Davey. Evil Dead Burn is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on July 10, 2026, through Warner Bros. Pictures.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds a 78% Tomatometer score based on 51 critic reviews. The response has been divided, with many critics celebrating the movie’s extreme horror style while others feel it does not match the quality of previous Evil Dead films.

Some critics praised the movie for fully embracing the franchise’s reputation for over-the-top violence. Germain Lussier from io9 described the film as an intense experience, writing that “Evil Dead Burn is so brutal, painful, disgusting, and intense that you can practically (but, thankfully, not literally) feel it buzzing in your bones.”

Chris Bumbray from JoBlo’s Movie Network also highlighted the movie’s shocking approach, calling it “the goriest (and grimmest) of the franchise to date.”

Other reviewers agreed that the film delivers exactly what horror fans expect from Evil Dead. Matt Hudson from What I Watched Tonight praised its messy and violent style, describing it as “grimy, yucky, wince-inducing and bloody fun – even if it may not be perfect.”

However, not everyone was impressed. Some critics felt the movie relied too heavily on cruelty and lacked the charm that made earlier installments stand out. David Crow from Den of Geek gave the film a negative review, saying “Evil Dead Burn is simply crude and cruel, a movie full of misanthropy and as unpleasant to sit through as the scatological splatter of mid-2000s torture porn.”

Kyle Anderson from Nerdist was also critical, stating “The Evil Dead series has a very high bar for quality, and Evil Dead Burn is comfortably the worst.”

Despite the mixed reactions, the latest installment appears ready to deliver exactly what many fans want: a dark, violent, and unforgettable horror experience. The franchise has always balanced shocking scares with outrageous gore, and Evil Dead Burn seems determined to take that tradition even further.

The future of the series is already planned as well. A seventh movie titled Evil Dead Wrath is currently scheduled for 2028 and will serve as a prequel to the original The Evil Dead.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether Evil Dead Burn becomes another fan favorite or the most divisive chapter in the franchise’s history.
