Ewan McGregor Is Sure He Will Play Obi-Wan Again: βI Love Doing Itβ
Star Wars has quite a list of projects in the works currently, from Mangoldβs new Star Wars film that takes place thousands of years in the past to Waititiβs undisclosed project that he claimed βwill piss off the fans.β Thereβs also a new movie focusing on Reyβs restoration of the Jedi order 15 years in the future, which wonβt, according to the rumors, lead to a new trilogy but will rather be a standalone movie. Additionally, Filoni is actively working on the development of βAhsokaβ Season 2, among other upcoming projects.
In this sea of upcoming projects, fans were consistently asking about βObi-Wan Kenobiβ season 2. Ewan McGregor shed some light on the potential future of the series during his LADBible interview:
The truth is I’ve talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that and I’m not lying about this now. I don’t know. There’s been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm, or Disney saying, βLet’s do another oneβ. Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it’s out and people like it, which I’m very, very pleased about. I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there.
Less than a year ago, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy stated that the second season of the show isnβt impossible but itβs highly unlikely at the moment considering that tons of new content had been announced during the Star Wars Celebration event only a few months prior.
That is not in active development. But I never say never, because thereβs always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another.
Chow, director of the show had much worse news for the fans as her own statement did not reflect the potential future:
Iβm sure you can tell from the story that it is closed. We did obviously seem to tell one big story. Who knows, thereβs ten more years before βA New Hopeβ starts, so never say never.
Now, the possibilities for Season 2 are literally endless β of course, if it ever happens. About a decade of Obi-Wan Kenobiβs self-induced exile on Tatooine remains between the ending of βObi-Wan Kenobiβ Season 1 and βStar Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.β Wouldnβt it be incredibly interesting to see more about those years of Kenobiβs exile?
It would be silly to have Anakin and Obi-Wan meet again β that would just contradict the original trilogy β but Season 2 could deal with Kenobiβs life on Tatooine. Perhaps he deals with threats on the planet itself. Maybe we see more of him secretly protecting little Luke from the shadows? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
