Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Tangled is already facing criticism from fans after new set photos revealed a noticeable change to a familiar part of the franchise. While production is still underway, some viewers are already sharing their disappointment online over a design choice that they feel changes an important part of the original movie’s identity.

The controversy began after images from the set showed banners from the fictional kingdom of Corona. In the animated film, Corona is strongly connected with a purple and gold color scheme, which became one of the most recognizable visual elements of Tangled. However, the new live-action set appears to use blue and yellow banners instead, causing many fans to question why the colors were changed.

According to reactions shared across social media platforms like X, many fans feel that the purple theme is an essential part of Rapunzel’s world. Some viewers argued that even small changes like this can affect the feeling of a remake, especially when the original movie has such a loyal fanbase.

One fan wrote, “Just found out they’re allegedly using blue banners instead of purple for Corona in the Tangled remake and now im starting my day off mad and upset.” Another person posted, “Cancel the whole movie omg Tangled is purple,” while another reaction said, “Them taking the purple theme of Tangled from me is the worst thing they could have ever done.”

The backlash comes as Disney continues production on the live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated hit. The studio has faced mixed reactions to many of its recent remakes, with some becoming successful while others struggled with criticism from audiences. Films like Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Lilo & Stitch were generally received positively, while other projects faced heavy fan disappointment.

Despite the early criticism, the remake is still expected to include several elements that fans love from the original movie. Recent set images have shown the return of Maximus, Rapunzel’s loyal and comedic palace horse, as well as the construction of Rapunzel’s famous tower, which played a major role in the animated film.

The upcoming movie will feature Milo Manheim, known for Disney’s Zombies franchise, as Flynn Rider, while Teagan Croft from Titans will play Rapunzel. Kathryn Hahn has been cast as the villainous Mother Gothel, and Diego Luna will appear in a new role created specifically for the remake.

Behind the camera, The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is leading the project, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor writing the screenplay. Production is taking place at Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, Spain.

What do you think about the Tangled remake changing Corona’s banners from purple and gold to blue and yellow?

Disney has not announced an official release date for the Tangled remake yet, but more production photos are expected as filming continues. While some fans are already worried about the changes being made, others are waiting to see how the full movie comes together before making a final judgment.

For now, the debate over Corona’s new color scheme shows just how much small details can matter when adapting a beloved animated classic. The remake will have the challenge of creating something new while still keeping the magic that made the original Tangled a favorite among audiences.
