Speaking of superhero movies, we’re often dealing with “top 10” lists in terms of the greatest movies ever made. Superhero movies started being considered “good” only during the last decade when advances in CGI and practical effects allowed superheroes not to look extremely corny on-screen.

But, before ‘Endgame’ and ‘Dark Knight’, there was a series of bad superhero adaptations, some of which are so bad they are relentlessly mocked even today. More than 30,000 fans gathered on Ranker to determine what is the worst superhero movie of all time.

10. ‘The Fantastic Four’ (1994)

Honestly, just looking at these costumes and Thing’s latex suit you can see where this is going. ‘The Fantastic Four’ (1994), was so bad it never got released. You can however obtain a copy if you look hard enough. The sad thing is, despite the movie objectively being bad, it’s not that bad to be shelved forever. Some of the aspects of it have been praised, notably its script and Michael Bailey Smith’s performance as Ben Grimm.

9. ‘Supergirl’ (1984)

The ranking of this movie is not surprising if you don’t like campy takes on superheroes, and this is exactly what it delivered. Starring Helen Slater as Supergirl and Faye Dunaway as Selena critics hated that the portrayal of the characters was inconsistent. However, the film boasted some neat practical effects and scenes, especially if you take into account the year of release.

8. ‘Daredevil’ (2003)

One more not-so-surprising entry on the list, one that was made worse with age in my opinion. Yes, the movie was trashed on release, but the reviews were ultimately not abhorrent but rather “mixed.” Somehow, when Netflix released its ‘Daredevil’ show, fans started hating on the movie even more, despite Affleck having a decent performance in the film.

7. ‘Barb Wire’ (1996)

Yes in case you forgot, Pamela Anderson starred in her own superhero movie as Barbara “Barb Wire” Kopetski. You won’t find this movie on any “top 10 best” list, like ever. ‘Barb Wire’ was panned by critics for having a plot similar to ‘Casablanca’ and its low-brow attempts at sensuality.

6. ‘Superman IV: The Quest For Peace’ (1987)

Yes, believe it or not, one of Christopher Reeve’s Superman movies managed to be worse than a Pamela Anderson-led superhero movie. The sad part is, it’s all true. ‘The Quest For Peace’ was boring, with poor action and extremely cheap special effects, with some critics even noting that the series couldn’t go lower from here.

5. ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ (2011)

I don’t necessarily agree that ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ is worse than ‘A Quest For Peace’ but yeah the movie is pretty bad. The “sequel” to the first Ghost Rider movie was made worse by cheap CGI, and bad dialogues, and no one considered Cage’s bad & loony performance even mildly interesting at this point.

4. ‘Elektra’ (2005)

Elektra Movie

This movie is notable in superhero history for several reasons. First, the movie allegedly ruined Jennifer Garner’s career, and second, it killed any notion of female-led superhero movies for quite some time. It flopped big time, mostly due to its tone-deaf and unintelligent script. Jennifer Garner was admittedly good in the role, and it wasn’t her fault.

3. ‘Green Lantern’ (2011)

The CGI suit. ‘Green Lantern’ released in 2011 wanted to tell an ambitious- too ambitious story in its rather short runtime, and that was honestly the biggest problem with the film. I certainly don’t agree that it’s the third-worst movie on this list, but fans have spoken. It’s been mocked and meme’d relentlessly since its release, with Ryan Reynolds often taking a jab at it through other projects.

2. ‘Catwoman’ (2004)

There’s nothing to say about this movie except that Berry’s performance was the only decent thing about it, and even that wasn’t all that good. The actress earned the Golden Raspberry Award for worst actress that year and the movie itself won at least 8 “worst” awards that year.

1. ‘Batman & Robin’ (1997)

Batman and Robin Movie

The movie that earned Clooney the title of one of the worst Batman actors of all time. ‘Batman & Robin’ faced severe criticism from both critics and audiences. It was called the least distinctive in the Batman series, with professionals criticizing its mishmash of action, camp, and spectacle, and attributing its blandness to excessive studio interference. The best way to describe this Batman installment is “exhausting” I don’t agree that it’s the worst superhero movie of all time, but it should be ranked pretty high just beacuse it’s a Batman movie and it should be held by higher standards.
