‘Final Destination 5’ Director Unleashes Aliens on a Plane in Wild First ‘Black Box’ Trailer
Aura Entertainment has released the first trailer for its new sci-fi horror film Black Box, a project that mixes alien invasion chaos with a trapped airplane setting.
The film is directed by Steven Quale, a filmmaker known for his work on Final Destination 5. His involvement has already drawn attention from genre fans because of his experience with large-scale disaster horror and fast-paced survival storytelling.
Black Box takes place almost entirely on a passenger flight that suddenly turns into a nightmare. According to the official synopsis released by Aura Entertainment, the story begins as a normal domestic trip but quickly falls apart when strange and unexplained events start happening onboard.
The description explains, “A routine domestic flight turns into the flight from hell through a series of inexplicable phenomena and raw terror. Surreal encounters blur the boundaries between reality and nightmare. Passengers fight against all the odds in an attempt to survive while combating bizarre technological malfunctions, accelerating supernatural events and alien influences.”
The movie mixes several genres at once. It brings together alien horror, psychological tension, and disaster survival inside the tight space of a plane cabin. The idea plays on fear of being trapped in the air with nowhere to escape, while something unknown takes control of the environment.
The tone of the film leans heavily into chaos and confusion, as passengers struggle to understand what is real and what is not. Technology on the plane begins to fail, strange events escalate, and the situation becomes more dangerous as the flight continues.
Black Box features a cast made up of rising actors and familiar TV faces. The lineup includes Tom Brittney, known for Greyhound, Holly White from Bilched, Betsy-Blue English from Four Weddings and a Funeral, Dane Whyte O’Hara from Blue Lights, Kaja Chan from Bridgerton, Molly Belle Wright from Nine Perfect Strangers, Asa Ali from Euphoria, Danny Mac from Hollyoaks, and Hanneke Talbot from Ready or Not, among others.
The screenplay is written by Stephen Susco, who also worked on Texas Chainsaw. Susco is also listed among the producers along with Jon Oakes, David Haring, Christian Mercuri, and Warren Zide. The combination of Susco’s horror background and Quale’s action-heavy direction sets the tone for a fast, intense survival story.

Aura Entertainment is set to release Black Box on video on demand starting July 7. The film is expected to target audiences who enjoy contained horror stories, especially those set in confined environments where tension builds quickly.
The idea of “aliens on a plane” has already become a talking point online after the trailer dropped. The concept immediately brings to mind classic high-concept action and horror films where simple settings are turned into extreme survival situations. It also leans into a familiar pop culture fantasy of a chaotic airborne disaster, similar in spirit to over-the-top thriller ideas that thrive on tension and unpredictability.
With its mix of alien terror, psychological breakdowns, and airplane disaster energy, Black Box positions itself as a straightforward genre ride built for viewers who enjoy intense, fast-moving horror stories.
