First Look at ‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’ Shows Tanner Hagen Wearing Shaggy’s Famous Green Shirt
New set photos from the upcoming Netflix series “Scooby-Doo: Origins” show actor Tanner Hagen fully stepping into the role of Shaggy Rogers.
The 21-year-old was seen filming on April 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. He wore Shaggy’s well-known green shirt while shooting scenes for the prequel series. The images give one of the first clear looks at how the character is being brought to life in the new show.
“Scooby-Doo: Origins” is a live-action and CGI series that reimagines the classic mystery-solving group. The story is set during the characters’ final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears. It follows four teenagers who become involved in a dark mystery tied to a supernatural murder case that may involve a Great Dane puppy. The case pushes the group into dangerous situations while also exposing secrets from their past.
Tanner Hagen plays Shaggy Rogers in what is described as his biggest role so far. Before this project, he appeared in smaller roles including an episode of HBO Max’s “The Pitt” and the YouTube series “Dhar Mann,” where he played a young version of MrBeast.
The main cast also includes Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Paul Walter Hauser is part of the series as the owner connected to Scooby-Doo, while Frank Welker provides the voice for Scooby-Doo, described as a talking Great Dane puppy.
The series was developed by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who also serve as showrunners and writers. It is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Midnight Radio. Reports say development began in 2024 and was officially announced the following year. Filming started in late April 2026.
The show will run for eight episodes and is expected to stream on Netflix. The first episode will be directed by Toby Haynes.
This reboot is interesting because it is trying to mix a familiar childhood franchise with a darker mystery style. That could work well if the tone stays balanced, but it could also be tricky with such a well-known cast of characters. What do you think about this new “Scooby-Doo: Origins” direction?
