First Reactions Hail ‘Ballerina’ as Action-Packed and a Worthy ‘John Wick’ Spinoff with Ana de Armas at Her Best

Ballerina is a new action movie that we can look forward to. It takes place in the John Wick universe. It’s the fifth film in the series and takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4. The movie stars Ana de Armas as the main character, with Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus in supporting roles.
Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and Lance Reddick reprised their original characters, with Reddick appearing on screen for the last time before his passing.
The story came from a script written by Shay Hatten, which was picked up by Lionsgate in 2017. Hatten went on to help write the scripts for the third and fourth John Wick films. Len Wiseman was chosen as the director in 2019, and Chad Stahelski, the main director of the franchise, is one of the producers.
Ana de Armas took over the lead role from Unity Phelan, who briefly played the character in Chapter 3.
The movie recently had its premiere, and now we have the first reactions to it.
Fans and critics who saw an early look at Ballerina had a lot of positive things to say. Many praised Ana de Armas for her strong performance, saying she really stood out in the lead role. The movie is more than just another John Wick film with a new star; it feels more like a serious spy thriller, somewhat like a James Bond movie.
Fans enjoyed the creative and fast-paced action scenes, calling the fight choreography some of the best in the franchise.
Some mentioned that while Ballerina isn’t quite at the same level as the original John Wick movies, it’s still very entertaining and worth watching for the action.
The first half of the movie was described as slow, but the second half was exciting and full of energy. The villain was also well-liked, and the music score added to the experience.
Overall, viewers said the film is a fun and fresh addition to the John Wick world. The action is intense and brutal, and watching Ana de Armas as a fierce fighter was a highlight. Many felt the movie works well on its own, but also includes fun nods to the original series. The general feeling was that Ballerina is a thrilling, action-packed ride that exceeded expectations.
Got an early look at Ballerina last night. De Armas was really good! It wasn’t just a John wick movie with her in it, it gave a more serious, spy thriller vibe similar to some Bond films. Few good cameos, great villain, good score. 8/10 is my review!

Despite being a spinoff, it's one of the best titles in the franchise.#AnaDeArmas kicks ass & it features some of the most creative & kinetically dynamic action scenes & fight choreography.
Rating: 9/10 pic.twitter.com/9YgruNvDbz
Ballerina isn’t on the same level as John Wick, but you’ll watch it for the sake of action. John Wick ran so Ballerina could dance, stepping in to the rhythm of dynamic combats. First half is boring. Latter half is a breath of fresh air. Full Movie Review: https://t.co/r2FkjubtRS pic.twitter.com/1TW7SVVaGj

#Ballerina is a bloody good time. An expansion to the world of John Wick that is familiar yet fresh. Ana De Armas is great as the lead.

The action sequences are brutal. It is eye candy to watch Ana being a badass and kill some people on the big screen.
An absolute blast! pic.twitter.com/pv9tbU5hJP
Completely blown away! I walked in with high expectations, and #Ballerina delivers an action packed thrill ride with guns, knives, and explosions. Ana de Armas is an absolute force on screen. The John Wick nods are fun – however, It shines most as a standalone story.🎬🔥🍿 pic.twitter.com/0UuELqtcqJ
