First Teaser for Paul Thomas Anderson’s New Movie ‘One Battle After Another,’ Starring Leonardo DiCaprio

Warner Bros. Pictures recently unveiled a short teaser for “One Battle After Another,” the newest film from director Paul Thomas Anderson. This marks his 10th movie and his first time working with Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars alongside a large cast.

The teaser gives a quick glimpse of DiCaprio in action, with a full trailer set to drop next week. The movie hits theaters and IMAX on September 26, 2025.

The story remains a mystery, but some believe it draws from Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Vineland.” That book, set in the 1980s under Reagan, explored tensions between free-spirited people and the strict War on Drugs policies. While Warner Bros. calls the film’s setting “contemporary,” the teaser doesn’t confirm or deny these rumors.

This project stands out as Anderson’s most expensive yet. Early reports from Variety pegged the budget at over $100 million, with some estimates now reaching $140 million. That’s a big jump from his last film, “Licorice Pizza,” a smaller 2021 romantic comedy that cost $40 million but didn’t earn it back, despite strong reviews.

The cast is packed with talent. Alongside DiCaprio, it features Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, and Chase Infiniti. Alana Haim, who broke out in “Licorice Pizza,” is back working with Anderson too.

Filming started in January 2024 in California, a common setting for Anderson’s work, with extra scenes shot in El Paso, Texas. The movie was captured on 35 mm film using VistaVision cameras.

Anderson teams up again with composer Johnny Greenwood for their sixth project together. It’s also his fifth collaboration with first assistant director Adam Somner, who passed away in November 2024. The teaser has sparked curiosity, but more details should come with the upcoming trailer.
