Fortress of Solitude Location in Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Reportedly Revealed
With the start of the new year, we can look forward to the start of a new cinematic universe based on DC characters – DCU. And while DCEU ended its run with a somewhat successful ‘Aquman and the Lost Kingdom, ‘ the fact still remains that the majority of the movies have flopped. This is why Gunn and Safran were called in to take over the reins of the newly rebooted DCU, and they have plenty of projects on their release calendar, but none is as talked about as ‘Superman,’ a true beginning of DCU despite the fact that ‘Creature commandos’ are releasing first.
Now after months of speculation and planning, Gunn was overjoyed to announce that ‘Superman’ has begun principal photography on February 29th which is, coincidentally, Superman’s birthday. Even though filming was set to begin at Trilith Studios in Atlanta it seems that notable leaker and scooper Daniel Richtman chimed on one more unannounced filming location. According to Richtman, Corenswet already filmed some scenes on-site in Norway with the location possibly being Fortress of Solitude.
The Fortress of Solitude is Superman’s home and a hub for him and other superheroes. It’s often found at one of Earth’s poles and holds Kryptonian tech and gear. Since the Fortress was conventionally located in the Arctic, Norway perfectly checks out. We also have to take into account the rumors that were spreading several months ago that Gunn was reportedly scouting locations in Norway, making Richtman’s statement highly possible.
As mentioned the filming already began in Atlanta, Henry Braham returned as cinematographer, and director James Gunn planned to shoot the film for IMAX. A significant portion of filming, spanning 37 days, was scheduled for locations in Ohio from April to August. Additionally, filming was expected to occur in Macon, Georgia, with an overall duration of around four months. The shooting is expected to complete in July with the movie being ready for release on July 11, 2025.
