‘Gen V’ Season 2 Premiere Receives Weaker Reviews Than Season 1 – Here’s Why
Gen V’s second season is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 17, continuing the story of the college for young superheroes in The Boys universe.
The season brings back Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, and Asa Germann, with Hamish Linklater joining the cast as the new dean at Godolkin.
After the events of The Boys season four, Marie Moreau (Sinclair) and her friends return to the school, where they are trained to become soldiers. The season follows the students as they uncover a program that could change the balance between humans and Supes.
Early reviews for Season 2 are excellent, but not on the level that reviews for the first season have been. O
On Rotten Tomatoes, the season holds an 89% approval rating based on 19 critic reviews. Many critics praised the series’ ability to combine over-the-top, graphic humor with deeper character development.

Some felt the season was a satisfying continuation of The Boys universe and delivered strong performances, particularly from Jaz Sinclair and Hamish Linklater.
Gen V has levelled-up for season two thanks to its ability to balance the franchise’s signature cartoonish graphic grossness with three-dimensional character work. Forget Compound V – inject another five seasons of this straight into our veins.

After a slow star Gen V season 2 becomes a great next chapter for The Boys Universe and ends in a way that makes me excited for the final season

If you’re a fan, you’re going to stay a fan. If you aren’t, season two isn’t going to turn you into one. But there are some strong performances within a messy story.

Jaz Sinclair & Hamish Linklater carry what’s overall a very weak season in The Boys Universe. Unfortunately, things don’t really pick up until the last three episodes. This is The Boys answer to The Marvels, but with a much better villain which saves it.

Taken on its own merits, the spin-off series graduates to a sophomore year that’s more confident, more ambitious, and more earnest than what we’ve come to anticipate.

However, others noted that the story felt slow to start and uneven, with the action and excitement picking up mostly in the final episodes. While the show continues to explore the chaotic world of teen superheroes, some critics felt it struggled to match the energy and originality of the first season.
The series was compared to other superhero franchises, with the villain work being a standout element in an otherwise inconsistent season.
The sophomore season of ‘The Boys’ college spinoff is starting to suffer the problems of its original show.

Try as it might to elevate its tale’s importance to the level of The Boys, it comes across as a repetitive and charisma-challenged teen-supes saga that’s yet to fully mature.
Nick Schager
Overall, Gen V Season 2 appears to deliver for fans of the franchise, though it may not win over new viewers. The series continues to expand The Boys universe while trying to find its own identity as a college-focused superhero drama.
