George Clooney responded to Hunter Biden’s harsh criticism of his involvement in former President Joe Biden’s 2024 re-election plans during an interview on CBS Sunday Morning. The actor addressed comments made by President Biden’s son, who had strongly criticized Clooney in a July interview with Channel 5’s Andrew Callaghan.

Hunter Biden, 55, targeted Clooney, 64, over a New York Times op-ed Clooney wrote urging Joe Biden not to seek another term.

In the interview, Hunter angrily said, “F*** you. What do you have to do with f**** anything? Why do I have to f**** listen to you?” He added, “What right do you have to step on a man who’s given 52 years of his f**** life to the service of this country and decide that you, George Clooney, are going to take out basically a full page ad in the f**** New York Times to undermine the president…”

Clooney defended himself, calling Hunter’s claims “outright lies.” He clarified to CBS, “Obama didn’t put me up to it, it wasn’t my fundraiser—it was my fundraiser, all the things.”

He also said revisiting the issue publicly wouldn’t help anyone, including Hunter or the Democratic Party. “I’m just gonna wish him well on his ongoing recovery and I hope he does well and just leave it at that,” Clooney said.

In his July comments, Hunter suggested Clooney had received approval from “Obama people” to write the op-ed and criticized Clooney’s role in a Hollywood fundraiser for Biden in June 2024. Hunter claimed Clooney “wasn’t really the host, he was the entertainment, I guess,” though he acknowledged that his father did recognize Clooney at the event.

Clooney also reflected on the political situation, stating that he believed it was a mistake for President Biden to essentially hand the nomination to Vice President Kamala Harris after stepping aside.

“We had a chance. I wanted there to be, as I wrote in the op-ed, a primary. Let’s battle-test this quickly and get it up and going,” he told CBS. He added, “The mistake with it being Kamala is she had to run against her own record and it’s very hard to do if the point of running is to say, ‘I’m not that person.’… I think it was a mistake, quite honestly. But, we are where we are.”

Clooney made it clear that while he disagrees with Hunter Biden’s accusations, he wants to focus on moving forward rather than engaging in public conflict.
