George R.R. Martin Says More ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoffs Are Moving Forward at HBO
Fans of Game of Thrones have been waiting to hear whether HBO plans to expand the world of Westeros even more.
Now George R.R. Martin has shared some new information, and it comes directly from his talk with Los Siete Reinos during a recent event. Martin said that HBO is working on several new projects connected to the franchise.
During the conversation, Martin explained that there are more shows in development than people may think. He said,
[Translated from Spanish]“Apart from The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and The House of the Dragon, there are other Game of Thrones spinoff projects in development. Most of them are prequels. There are several in development, five or six series; and I don’t develop them alone, but I’m working with other people. Yes, there is some sequel.”
His comments confirm that HBO is still exploring multiple ideas for the future of the series.
Right now, fans already know that House of the Dragon is continuing. Season 3 is being filmed and is planned for 2026, and HBO has already renewed the show for a fourth season.
The network is also working on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg. The series follows Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell.
It is set long before the events of Game of Thrones and will have six episodes when it arrives on HBO and Max in 2026. The show has also been renewed for a second season before the first one has even aired.
These updates show that HBO is far from done with Westeros. With several new ideas being developed and major shows already moving forward, the world created by Martin continues to grow.
