Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is closer to its release date, and fans get new content almost daily. The most recent TV spot presented us with familiar faces, teasing us with another notable MCU character, Doctor Strange. However, Doctor Strange isn’t in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 movie, but there is someone who can wield the Eldritch Magic – a sorcerer named Krugarr. We briefly saw him in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 movie, and the recent trailer confirmed that he would appear again in the third and final Guardians of the Galaxy project. This article will discuss who Krugarr is and what his powers are.

Krugar is a sorcerer and a leader of the Krugarr Ravager Clan, the Lem that first appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 movie. There aren’t many details about Krugarr, but we know they were part of another Ravagers elite team led by Stakar Ogord, who will also appear in the upcoming movie. The elite team disbanded after Yondu Udonta was exiled but reunited with everyone after their former teammate’s death. In the comics, Krugarr is actually an apprentice of Doctor Stephen Strange, who teaches them the way of magic and eventually becomes a Sorcerer Supreme.

We will discuss this topic more by explaining Krugarr’s origins in comics and their role in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 movie. Moreover, we will explain Krugarr’s and Ravager’s role and their potential story in the movie. If you are interested, stay with us until the end.

Who is Krugarr in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies?

Guardians of the Galaxy movies introduced us to the space in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thor appeared before them, and there was a Chithauri invasion, but most of that fight occurred on Earth. Guardians took Marvel Cinematic Universe to space and left it there to this day.

We met many great characters and species in space, but most importantly, almost everyone had a role in the Guardians of the Galaxy plot. Krugarr was introduced in the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and their origins were briefly explained.

In their youth, Krugarr was part of the elite team of Ravagers led by Stakar Ogord, a legendary Ravager captain, and was one of the most important members of the squad. Other members included Yondu Udonta, Aleta Ogord, Charlie-27, Martinex, and Mainframe.

This part of the storyline is heavily featured during Yondu’s exile from the team after it was revealed that Udonta was part of the child trafficking. Yondu brought babies from across the galaxy to Ego, who used them for his horrific motivations.

After Yondu sacrifices himself to save everyone and shows that he is actually good, Stakar Ogord’s team reunites in the post-credits scene, and frankly, this was the only time when Krugarr appeared in the movie. However, the recent trailer indicates that might change since the synopsis of the GotG 3 suggests that Rocket’s past life will force Guardians to go on a dangerous mission and that the elite Ravagers will help Guardians.

Now, Krugarr wasn’t used that much in the second Guardians movie, but from their brief cameo, we could see that Lem is a sorcerer who can wield Eldritch Magic, the same type as Doctor Strange. In the movie, Krugarr can create, shape and manipulate the said magic and is seen creating Tao Mandalas more relaxing than we saw Doctor Strange do in the MCU – Krogarr wanted to express his excitement for reuniting with his former team.

Of course, as we briefly mentioned, Krogarr is part of Marvel Comics as well, and their ability to wield Eldritch Magic isn’t random because the character is closely connected to Doctor Strange in the comics. How? Let’s find out.

Krugarr is Doctor Strange’s apprentice and eventual Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Comics

Krugarr the Lem first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1991 as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #1, where they are heavily connected to Doctor Strange – a much older version of the character.

In the comics, Krugarr is a Lem, whom Doctor Strange discovers in the 22nd century, on Earth-691. Fascinated, the aged Doctor Stephen Strange, now an Ancient One, offers Krugarr to become his apprentice, and they accept the offer.

The Lem shows great talent wielding Eldritch Magic and eventually becomes a Sorcerer Supreme, and continues the cycle by getting an apprentice on their own, the Inhuman Talon. After Dormammu kills Doctor Strange, Krugarr, with the help of the Guardians, defeats the villain and avenges the fallen Ancient One.

Krugarr is a powerful sorcerer in Marvel Comics who follows in Doctor Strange’s footsteps and becomes the Sorcerer Supreme, which makes him extremely powerful.

Essentially, this is the storyline Krugarr was part of in Marvel Comics, and it’s not surprising seeing the character have a lesser role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Krugarr is a supporting character in Guardians of the Galaxy comics, but the sorcerer Lem might have a bigger role in the movie.

Now, this might be a stretch since there are countless characters, but the return of Stakar Ogord’s Ravagers involves them helping Guardians execute a dangerous mission.

In the TV spot, we briefly saw Krugarr wilding their Tao Mandalas in front of Star-Lord, and that might be extremely helpful for the Guardians and their mission to help Rocket.

Of course, seeing a Wong and Doctor Strange reference in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 movie, could become more important for future MCU projects. Nevertheless, it’s cool to see old characters return to reprise their role in the trilogy’s final movie. Knowing that great actors are cast for these supporting characters makes Guardians 3 extremely exciting.

The original Stakar Ogord’s Ravagers are back, and they will most definitely have a much bigger role than before – especially Krugarr.
