Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is an upcoming Marvel movie that marks the end of the storied franchise in the MCU and the farewell of the members of the quirky superhero team. This movie will be the last directorial project of James Gunn, who moved to Warner Bros. and DC, and it is supposed to be a love letter to the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Of course, some characters will have their last appearances in the MCU, while others will move on and potentially reappear in other projects. Nevertheless, many fans consider Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 movie as one of the most exciting projects released by Marvel in 2023, and besides the farewell, it presents a great opportunity to continue the story of Phase Five.

We mentioned the fans’ excitement, and usually, it means that the movie is predicted to break a lot of records, especially on the weekend of its release. The first weekend or a week of theatrical release dictates the earning and commercial success of the movie long-term, and knowing MCU movies, it seems that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be as successful.

Box office forecast shows a decrease in Guardians 3 earnings in the first week of the domestic release

At least, that’s what bookmakers and box office forecasts speculate, but the recent week showed the movie’s potential earnings decrease in the first week of its release. According to boxofficepro.com, their long-range box office forecast predicted that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was supposed to earn around $150m or more in the first domestic release of the movie. However, since last week, the forecast speculates that the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie will earn 6% less than the previous week.

How did they predict that? This website predicts the best and worst scenarios for each theatrical release by using the marketing condition of each project and projected model fluctuation, which is updated regularly. What’s also important to note is that this information is statistics, not the final forecast, since it is impossible to predict the movie’s ticket sales until May, when Guardians 3 is released.

The percentage has decreased since last week because, allegedly, tickets for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sell up to 20 percent less than Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania movie released earlier this year. This is a worrying trend for MCU since its movies released in the last two years didn’t reach the expectations of the fans and critics.

The Marvel fatigue is also huge and absolutely real – the “every year release of MCU project” might as well overwhelm the public. People also prefer watching MCU blockbusters on their streaming platforms since the movie will be released a few months after release. These speculations, predictions, and rumors are yet to show if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 doesn’t have as much support as we thought, and until then, we will patiently wait for the movie to be released.
