Gunn’s Latest Announcement Makes It Possible for Henry Cavill’s Superman To Be Canon to the DCU

With the announcement of Gunns & Safran’s newly rebooted DCU, James Gunn made it very clear that almost nothing from the old DCEU won’t be canon to the new cinematic universe.

The only exceptions were ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1 and Blue Beetle (the character not the story), and Gunn promised to transition in the second season of ‘Peacemaker’ as smoothly as possible and not confusing to the fans.

Now the latest announcement related to the show makes that a bit impossible since it seems that yet another project is canon to the DCU – ‘The Suicide Squad.’

Frank Grillo was cast as Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, after already being confirmed to voice the character for the animated show. This aligns with what Gunn said back when he was presenting the DCU, that he would like for the voice actors to play themselves in live-action projects as well.

But, this announcement was followed by confirmation that Flag Sr. will have a beef to settle with Peacemaker, and as we all know, Peacemaker is responsible for the death of Flag Jr. in ‘The Suicide Squad.’

The clash between the original DC Universe and James Gunn’s revamped DCU is inevitable, even though Gunn claimed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is set within the DCU. Despite assurances from Gunn that it won’t be confusing, the conflicting visions are on a collision course.

If Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag is part of the DCU, then it follows that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and potentially Henry Cavill’s Superman, due to Davis’ appearance in the post-credit scene of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, also exist within that universe.
