Harlan Coben’s ‘The Woods’ Gets a New UK Adaptation on Netflix
Netflix is working on a new British series based on a story by Harlan Coben. The project is a fresh version of The Woods, and it continues the long-running partnership between the streaming platform and the popular thriller writer. The news was first reported by Deadline.
The show will feature Tom Bateman in the lead role, alongside Michelle Keegan. Both actors are already familiar to Netflix audiences. They will be joined by a wider cast that includes Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, and Rade Šerbedžija.
The story centers on a man named Paul Copeland. His life was deeply affected years ago when his sister disappeared during a summer camp. The case was never solved, and it left a lasting mark on him and his family. Now, as an adult, he has built a career and is raising his young daughter. But everything changes when new evidence appears that links back to the old case. This discovery pushes him to look into the past again. As he searches for answers, he reconnects with someone from his earlier life, and together they begin to uncover hidden truths.
This is not the first time The Woods has been adapted. Netflix previously released a Polish version of the same story. The new series will bring a different setting and a new cast, while keeping the core mystery.
Behind the scenes, the project brings back familiar names from past Coben adaptations. Danny Brocklehurst is involved in writing, along with Charlotte Coben, Tom Farrelly, and Joe Forrest. Production is handled by Nicola Shindler’s company, Quay Street. Coben is also part of the executive production team.
Coben shared his thoughts on the story, saying, “The Woods is a haunting and very personal story. It has everything you expect from us — twisty, turning, gasp-inducing — but at the core is a story of old love and yearning.”
Netflix has seen strong results from earlier Coben series, including the success of Fool Me Once, which drew a large audience. With that track record, expectations for this new version are high.
Netflix seems to know exactly what works with these kinds of stories. Coben’s books have a clear style, and viewers keep coming back for more. Still, it will depend on how fresh this new version feels compared to the earlier ones. What do you think about another adaptation of The Woods? Are you excited to watch it, or do you think Netflix is doing too many of these? Share your thoughts in the comments.
