Hayden Panettiere’s final social media post has taken on a much more emotional meaning following the actress’s sudden death at 37.

Panettiere, best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, died unexpectedly on Sunday. Her death was confirmed by her spokesperson to People, who described the actress as someone who brought love and joy to the people around her as well as to the millions who watched her on screen.

Just weeks before her death, Panettiere shared what appeared to be a simple and happy moment with a close friend. On July 27, she posted a photo of herself smiling alongside photographer Randall Slavin. Her caption was short: “Good times and good friends.”

At the time, the post seemed like an ordinary glimpse into Panettiere’s life. After news of her death, however, fans began looking back at the photo differently.

Slavin also paid tribute to Panettiere after learning of her death. He shared her final post on Instagram and wrote, “Rest in peace, H.”

The actress had been especially active in the months leading up to her death while promoting her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning. The book, published on May 19, gave Panettiere an opportunity to speak openly about some of the hardest parts of her life.

According to Index.hr, the memoir reached No. 4 on the New York Times bestseller list. Panettiere celebrated the achievement on social media in May, writing, “Ahhhh!!! New York Times Bestseller list!!! What a crazy ride. Thank YOU all for your support!”

The success of the book came during a period when Panettiere was speaking much more openly about her personal experiences. In This Is Me: A Reckoning, she discussed her struggles with alcohol addiction and depression, difficult relationships, violence, and the pressure she faced while growing up in the entertainment business.

Rather than hiding those experiences, Panettiere said she wanted the book to help people who might be dealing with similar problems.

In comments previously shared with People, she explained what she hoped readers would take away from her story: “Maybe you’ll laugh, maybe you’ll cry, but I hope the book ultimately inspires you. I learned so much from my own experiences, and I believe that a detailed account of my journey will bring comfort to those who have struggled with similar issues. I am truly grateful for every lesson and for the person I am today.”

Panettiere became a familiar face at a very young age and spent much of her life working in Hollywood. Her role as Claire Bennet on Heroes made her a major television star, while her performance as Juliette Barnes on Nashville earned her two Golden Globe nominations.

Her final months were marked by a renewed connection with fans through her memoir and public appearances. The last photo she chose to share was not dramatic or mysterious. It showed her smiling beside a friend and celebrating what she called “good times and good friends.”

Following her death, that simple message has become one of the final public glimpses of Panettiere’s life, giving fans another reason to remember the actress beyond the difficult chapters she shared in her memoir.
