Helen Mirren has spoken strongly in support of her MobLand co-star Tom Hardy, saying she would work with him again without hesitation. Her comments came during an interview in Sicily, where she is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Taormina Film Festival. The conversation also touched on recent reports about Hardy’s behaviour on set and speculation about his future in the series.

Mirren made it clear that she has no doubts about working with Hardy again. When asked by Variety if she would collaborate with him in the future, she responded directly, “Absolutely. In a fucking heartbeat.”

She went on to explain that her experience working with Hardy was positive and that she has a strong respect for him as an actor. Mirren said that different performers have different ways of working, and that she understands not everyone approaches their craft in the same way.

She added, “I love Tom, I think he’s the most amazing actor. Different actors have different processes. I’ve learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with however someone gets there. Tom is a very special person. I think he’s absolutely remarkable. My support of him is genuine and heartfelt.”

Her comments come at a time when Hardy has been the subject of unconfirmed reports about tensions on the set of MobLand, the Paramount+ series in which he plays gangster Harry Da Souza. According to industry reporting, discussions are still ongoing about how to move forward with the show and whether Hardy will return in future production plans. Mirren’s public backing adds a strong voice in support of the actor during this period of uncertainty.

Mirren also expressed hope that the series will continue. She praised the creative team behind MobLand and said she believes the show has more to offer. She suggested that challenges on set are not unusual when strong creative personalities are involved.

She said, “When you have powerful artistic people working together, the creative process is challenging. People will get their knickers in a twist as we say. We will go forward, absolutely, and it will be even better.”

Her comments reflect a broader point about how she views collaboration in film and television. Rather than focusing on rumours or conflict, Mirren emphasized results on screen and the importance of creative output.

The interview also comes alongside a difficult personal moment for Mirren, who recently faced a verbal attack while walking in London. However, her remarks about Hardy remained focused on professional respect and support rather than outside controversy.

Mirren’s defence of Hardy stands out in an industry where public speculation can quickly grow around production issues. She made clear that, from her perspective, working with him has been a positive experience and one she would repeat without hesitation.

For Mirren, the focus remains on the work and the final result seen by audiences. Her comments suggest confidence in Hardy’s talent and in the future of MobLand, despite reports suggesting uncertainty behind the scenes.

As she continues her appearance at the Taormina Film Festival, Mirren’s words underline a clear message: she values Hardy as a performer and would welcome the chance to collaborate with him again in the future.
