The first trailer for Her Private Hell has been released, giving audiences a new look at Nicolas Winding Refn’s latest horror thriller.

The movie is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who also co-wrote the script with Esti Giordani. It had its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on May 18, where it was shown out of competition.

The story takes place in a futuristic city that is suddenly covered by a strange and dangerous mist. This mist brings with it an unknown deadly force that changes the world around the characters. At the center of the story is a young woman named Elle, played by Sophie Thatcher, who begins a search for her missing father.

Her journey becomes more complicated as she crosses paths with an American soldier, played by Charles Melton, who is also trying to find his daughter. The two characters are connected through their search for family while the strange mist spreads across the city.

The trailer highlights the film’s dark and unusual atmosphere. It shows the city slowly being taken over by the mist, creating a sense of danger and mystery. The footage focuses on mood and tension rather than explaining everything clearly, which matches Refn’s known filmmaking style.

The cast also includes Havana Rose Liu, Kristine Froseth, Diego Calva, Shioli Kutsuna, Aoi Yamada, Dougray Scott, and Hidetoshi Nishijima. Each character appears to be part of the wider mystery surrounding the city and the strange force affecting it.

Her Private Hell will be released in U.S. theaters by Neon on July 24. It will also be released in other regions through Mubi, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and parts of Latin America.

Filming for the movie took place in Tokyo and Copenhagen between May and July 2025. The score is composed by Pino Donaggio, adding to the film’s dark and atmospheric style.

Overall, the trailer shows a story focused on fear, family, and survival inside a collapsing world. With its unusual setting and strong visual style, Her Private Hell is being positioned as one of the more unique horror releases of 2026.
