When Disney bought the rights to Star Wars, fans were excited to see what the next trilogy would be like and the other content that Disney would produce. One major time period Disney has focused on has been the gap between ‘Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith’. With multiple shows, countless comics, and games, Disney has seized the opportunity to fill this time gap. One of the shows taking place during then is ‘Andor,’ but when does the series take place in the Star Wars timeline?

The first season of ‘Andor’ is a prequel to ‘Rogue One,’ which takes place in 5 BBY and runs over the course of a year.  This would occur roughly the same time as ‘Star Wars Rebels’ and before ‘Rogue One’. With it being roughly 14-15 years after ‘Revenge of the Sith,’ ‘Andor’ takes place during the height of the Empire’s reign and at the beginning of the Rebellion.

Now that we have briefly discussed when ‘Andor’ takes place in the Star Wars timeline, let’s analyze it in more detail! If you are interested in what projects Andor took place before and after, plus the importance of ‘Rogue One,’ stay with us and keep reading!

What happened in ‘Rogue One’?

Rogue One

To understand when Andor takes place in the Star Wars galaxy, due to it being a prequel to ‘Rogue One, ’  it’s important to understand the film’s events.  ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is about how the Rebel Alliance got their hands on the Death Star plans that were used to destroy it in ‘A New Hope’.

Andor, with the help of Jyn Erso and their crew, infiltrated the planet of Scarrif, which is where the plans are located. In getting the plans to Rebellion, the Empire uses the Death Star on the planet, killing everyone involved.  This then leads right into the events of ‘A New Hope.’

Is ‘Andor’ before or after ‘Rogue One’?

Andor takes place before the events of ‘Rogue One.’ The series focuses on Cassian Andor before he joins the Rebellion and plants the seeds for his appearance in ‘Rogue One.’ Season 1 takes place in 5 BBY and runs over the course of the year, with season 2 set to take place right where the first season left off and run over the course of 4 years.

This will have the second season lead up to the events right before ‘Rogue One’  and lead into ‘A New Hope.’ We will no doubt see Cassian Andor evolve into the strong leader that we see him as in ‘Rogue One’.

Is ‘Andor’ before or after ‘Star Wars Rebels’?

rebels

The first two seasons of ‘Andor’ roughly take place during the same time as ‘Star Wars Rebels’ with ‘Rebels’ taking place between 4 BBY and 1 BBY, running concurrently with one another. This could mean a slight crossover or a simple mention of the characters and events from ‘Star Wars Rebels.’ With the Ghost Crew now having live-action counterparts, it would be a great treat for fans to see them appear in the second season, depending on the season.

Is Andor before or after ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’?

Obi wan

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ takes place in 9 BBY, which means that ‘Andor’ doesn’t happen till a few years later. Ten years after ‘Revenge of the Sith,’ the Empire is in the middle of its reign, and the galaxy is at its lowest.

The Rebellion hasn’t started to be fully formed by this point. However, hope for freedom is slowly starting to make its way through the galaxy, which then goes on to inspire the Rebellion years later. During ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker are only ten years old, and with Andor being key to lead right into ‘Rouge One,’ Leia would have to be much older by this point.

Is ‘Andor’ before or after ‘Ahsoka’?

Ahsoka live action 1 1

With ‘Ahsoka’ taking place after the original trilogy, ‘Andor’ takes place many years before the show. By the time of ‘Ashoka,’ Cassian Andor and the rest of his crew will have died by this point. Due to the Battle of Yavin taking place during ‘A New Hope,’ Cassian and his crew in ‘Rogue One’ were the ones who stole the Death Star plans, which made the Battle of Yavin possible.

However, this doesn’t mean that we won’t get a mention of the crew, as the destruction of the Death Star was a key moment in the history of the Rebellion, with it being the start of the Empire’s downfall.

Is Andor before or after ‘Jedi Fallen Order’ and ‘Jedi Survivor’?

Jedi Survivor

Andor takes place after both games. It takes place 9-10 years after the first game and 4-5 years after the last game. Like ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ the Rebellion has not yet fully formed during the games’ events. Figures like Saw Gurrera are prominent in ‘Jedi Fallen Order,’ but the full idea of the Rebellion has yet to be established. Some groups are out there fighting the Empire, like Cere and Greeze, but they have yet to unify and start a full-on Rebellion against the Empire.

What will ‘Andor’ Season 2 be about?

We know that Season 2 will cover the next four years leading up to the events of ‘Rogue One,’ so we will most likely see Cassian Andor fully joining the Rebellion and how they find out about the Death Star plans. There’s also the chance that all the characters we have seen join Cassian will likely die, particularly because they are not in ‘Rogue One.’
