Hiroshi Motomiya's 'Enma' Manga Goes on Hiatus, Schedules May Return

Mangaka Hiroshi Motomiya is definitely an important name that many manga fans will know and remember fondly. He is best known for his work on Tenchi wo Kurau (1983–1984) and Salary Man Kintaro (1994–2002), but he is a very prolific author in general.

His recent series includes several iterations of the Takeki Ōgon no Kuni manga, as well as the currently ongoing Enma manga, which premiered in Weekly Young Jump on January 9.

If you’re a fan of Motomiya’s new manga, we have some bad news for you, as it has been officially announced that the manga is going on a hiatus, but the silver lining is that we have a return date!

The manga hasn’t been here for long, as you can see, but since Motomiya is an author who likes to do more projects at the same time, this shouldn’t really come as a major surprise, as the stress of working on one project at a time can, sometimes, be the cause of a hiatus, let alone the stress of working on multiple projects.

Alongside Enma, Motomiya is currently working on Jinsei Iroiro (launched in 2024) and Takeki Ōgon no Kuni: Takahashi Korekiyo (ongoing since 2022).

As for the official reason, it has been stated that Motomiya is taking a break to collect more material for the series. This has been described as “long-term material gathering,” which implies that a similar hiatus won’t come soon.

As for the return date, it has been confirmed that the manga will return in Weekly Young Jump‘s 24th issue in May.
