Back in 2018, Kengo Hanazawa launched his action-comedy manga Under Ninja. Since then, a total of 14 tankobon volumes have been released and the manga is having a very solid run.

A 12-episode anime series was released in 2023, and a live-action adaptation was released in movie format in January 2025. So far, there is no official information about the anime’s future.

As for the manga, it is still ongoing, and while we don’t have an end date yet, we can confirm that the manga is currently going on a three-week hiatus and will be back in late April.

The information was officially confirmed in the 18th issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine on Monday, which also confirmed that the series would be returning on April 28, 2025.

No official reason has been given, but knowing the manga industry, it most likely has to do something with the author’s health, as this is the most common reason for a manga to go on hiatus. Seeing how this is not a long one, it is probably just that Hanazawa needs to take a break, which is common in the industry.

Be that as it may, we wish him a speedy return!

In case you’re not acquainted with the manga, here is a brief synopsis that might intrigue you properly:

A high school loner is given the part-time job of a lifetime as a modern day ninja tasked to perform international assassinations. After World War II, Allied Command in Japan developed a new agency to help manage terrorism and violence within the Pacific region. The agency was staffed with ninja and they were initially tasked to handle domestic affairs. Eventually that program grew to its current form, managing 20,000 ninja across a range of domestic and international affairs. One of those ninja happens to be Kurō. The seventeen-year-old high school loser is now poised to be the next line of defense against a potential surge in foreign assassins invading Tokyo.
