Historic Emmy Win: ‘Severance’ Star Becomes First Black Man to Take Home Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Tramell Tillman made history at the 2025 Emmy Awards, becoming the first Black man to win the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. The Apple TV+ series “Severance” star earned the award for his role as Milchick, marking both his first nomination and first win.
Tillman faced stiff competition in the category, going up against Zach Cherry and John Turturro from “Severance,” James Marsden from “Paradise,” and Sam Rockwell, Jason Isaacs, and Walton Goggins from “The White Lotus,” according to Variety.
In his acceptance speech, Tillman acknowledged the support of his family and reflected on the journey that brought him to this milestone. “You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for, do the work, show up, and most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public,” he said.
He also paid tribute to his mother, saying, “Mama, you were there for me when no one else was and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you. Thank you to the Academy. I am full. I am humbled. I am honored. And as my mama would say, ‘look at God.’”
The award was presented by Jude Law and Jason Bateman, following the lead actor and actress in a comedy series awards, which went to Seth Rogen for “The Studio” and Jean Smart for “Hacks,” according to the Academy.
